Default Walter Egan gig - Magnet and Steel

I have not posted here in a very long time, but I felt this was a good reason to post again. I live in Nashville, TN and recently found out that Walter Egan was playing a gig in a small town nearby called Franklin (apparently he lives there). My friend and I went to the show in this teeny tiny club and he really rocked. During the break we went up and spoke with him and told him how we got to know his music through our love for Fleetwood Mac. He thought it was really cool and told us that he had a CD there with him that we could have, which had a newly remixed accapella version of Magnet and Steel on it. He also told us---which I was unaware of---that he recorded his album Not Shy in the basement of Stevie's house in the Hollywood Hills after she moved out of it because it had such good acoustics.

Anyway....I would like to share the track with all of you, becuase it is pretty amazing to hear....but I have no idea of how to go about doing this. Can I email the file to someone that has a FM website that it could be uploaded to? Please let me know if you can help me out with sharing this song.

Thanks.

Kristin

Hey Kristin. That's very cool that you got to see him perform and he gave you a rare track like that! He sounds like a really nice guy. Thanks for sharing that story.

I'm sure someone who owns one of the FM sites could host the mp3 for you.

Hopefully someone will volunteer! It's a pretty cool track.

The acappella version of M&S is on the rerelease of HiFi and The Last Stroll, which came out back in May. I have a clip of the recording (not full length, sorry) at my website Walternative.com. I also have clips of songs from all eight of his solo albums as well as his albums with The Malibooz and The Brooklyn Cowboys.

I am so jealous that you got to see him live and meet him. (He's such a sweetheart.) I've been a huge fan of his for six years now but live in California and can't afford to travel.

Here's a Windows Media vid of Walter performing Magnet at last year's Nashville Connections show:

Cool! I didn't know you had mp3s because I haven't been there recently. I'll have to check that out.

If you can email it, can't you just use usendit.com and then post the link?

Yep. But they're just 1-1.5 minute long samples and not the greatest quality (kept it low to save on disk space). I didn't want to post full-song downloads because I prefer to encourage people to actually buy the music. There are links to some full song downloads that have been legally posted on other sites though, but the acappella M&S isn't one of them.

I also just added a photo album. It only has a few pics in it at the moment. Walter's out of state right now but should be sending me more pics soon. There's also a guy who's been a fan since the 70's that has promised to send me his pic collection.

That's true. She could do that, though it would probably reach more people if a website hosted it. But, yeah, she could use yousendit.com or megaupload.com

I've looked at part of the photo album already and it looks really nice!

Thanks. I'm getting kinda antsy to get more pics and info. I don't like to go more than a few days without doing something to the site (I'm weird that way) and it's already been four days since the last update. I'm also supposed to be getting some concert and album reviews from the 70s from one of his ex-bandmates. But it may be awhile before I get any new stuff.

Sigh. Patience has never been one of my virtues.

Wow, a real Walter Egan diehard! Thats awesome. He was SO nice and totally laid back. His band played really amazing too. I am a fan for sure after seeing him live. He also said that he wanted to start doing those small gigs more often, so maybe you will get a chance to come to Nashville and see one!

I will try using the weblinks you guys recommended.

Kristin

Was the club you saw him at called 'The Pond'? I know he's been doing a lot of shows there lately.

Maybe I'll make that my goal for next summer - try to cut out as many unnecessary expenditures as possible and save up to go see him play. He told me that he recently started recording songs for what should be his next album, so maybe that'll be out by next year.

The biggest challenge will be finding someone to go with me. My friends aren't exactly fans of his work and wouldn't be willing to shell out the money for travel expenses.

Yes, it was at The Pond! It is a teeny tiny little place, so it was a cool place to see him play.

I tried using megaupload.com and it did not work...a new page just kept loading and then failing. And I could not even get usendit.com to load.

Any more suggestions?

Kristin

Perhaps try www.rapidshare.de

Once the file is uploaded, it takes you to a second page, on the bottom of which will be the link to your file. Just copy that and paste it here.
The amount of downloads are unlimited, so everyone who wants it should have no problems getting it.

Thanks for doing this, Kristin!

Oh, that's cool. I'd never heard of that site before.

That site didn't work either! Do you think its because the file is a .m4a file?
