Christy sent me the article from TVShowsOnDVD.com and it said American Gothic comes out on October 25th. I? Am ecstatic. I can finally trash my crappy videos. It's truly the best show ever. The last few episodes were kind of limp after they fired Weber and replaced him with the most uncharismatic actor in the world, but up until then, it was greatness. Gary Cole was so ****ing scary.

Wendigo is one of my top five favorite movies. Him and Patricia Clarkson are superb in it.

Meh. Rented the DVD. The script was lousy. Acting was good. Two things that threw it into the "meh" category:

1) The Wendigo marionette.

2) Having to suffer through watching Weber and Clarkson rut on the couch. Yes, seeing his ass was nice, but not in this context.

Annnnnnnnnd the director is a weirdo-psycho with REALLY bad teeth. Jeezus, it's the 21st century- brush your teeth and go to the dentist for ****ssake!!

I liked the script, thought it was great. But it was what the actors did with it that I really loved. Bite me.

I'll give you that, but c'mon, it was a cheapie independent affair.

Seeing his ass is nice in any context. Whatchoo smokin', Willis?

I tried watching the interview with him on the DVD and couldn't because his teeth grossed me out so badly. Crest Whitestrips and braces would do that boy a whole lotta good.

Meh. The script was too vague. Anytime something is based on a little kid's closet boogeyman, you know relativity goes right out the window.

I understand that, but if they want to communicate fear and dread, cheezy marionettes are not the way to pull it off. Better to use nothing and have the absence of the visual + acting + script convey the fear.

Sorry. Seeing him getting it on with some chick is not a turn-on for me- no matter what I'm smoking, Arnold.

I think he's waaaaaaay beyond the help of Crest Whitestrips. He needs tooth extraction and dentures. I can just imagine what his breath smells like.

That's the thing, it wasn't based on a little kid's closet boogeyman. It was Miles, the kid, using the legend of the Wendigo to "explain" and put a face on the things that he was too afraid of facing and dealing with. The prospect of a crazy hick shooting his father in cold blood wasn't something that he was prepared to deal with, so he put a mask on it, in the form of the Wendigo. The scene where George said people make up certain things to understand the world better did a perfect job of conveying it.

The fact that all of it was so vague enthralled me, personally.

I didn't have a problem with it. Yeah, the stick figure was cheesy, but the whole movie was from the perspective of the kid and his imagination. I thought it worked well.

Understandable. Didn't you say recently that the thought of having sex with a woman made you ralph?

A ****house door on a tunaboat probably has a more appealing scent.

I was referring to the fact that the whole basis for the movie was based on the director's childhood fear of the Wendigo.

But then the whole thing with the hick crashing his car and the native american dude who "wasn't there". A little too much of a Stephen King ripoff if you ask me.

Actually, in the grossout thread Curtis mentioned that naked women grossed him out. I concurred. {blecchhhh} But, yes, the thought of having sex with a woman REALLY grossses me out...

Are we sure he didn't see himself and his choppers in a mirror and mistake the image before him for a Wendigo?

It was all in the kids imagination. Throughout the first half, his parents make quite a few references to him making things up all the time; his mother says it's to get attention because his father doesn't pay any mind to him. The bit with the hick crashing his car and being stalked by the Wendigo was dreamt up by the kid after he passed out in the hospital. That last scene of Otis being wheeled in on a gurney was just the continuation of that after he found out his father had died (I don't care what anyone says, that shot of his boots in the hallway of the hospital was heartbreaking ).

I guess so. I dunno- it just didn't do that much for me. It was OKAY.

I didn't get that, either. What the hell was the significance of the boots?? The whole movie for me was one big Maybe I'm just retarded.

Me and diss had a similar conversation after I saw it. I disagreed slightly with his explanation, but overall we kind of drew similar conclusions....anyway, it is a bit of a confusing movie.

The boots symbolized him having to step into his father's shoes now that he's gone. That's the one shot that struck me hard when I first saw it, I think it's perfect. That and the scene when the father and son are walking to go sledding. Words can't describe how perfect I think those scenes are.

Gigli?! Oy. I actually saw that piece of ****. Not in the cinema, though, rest assured.

Lovely pic, BTW. Hothothot. His voice makes me weak in the knees.
