It's very true even if she came up with another Dreams ,Edge of Seventeen and Stand Back in the same batch chances are she'd get no top 40 airplay but she hasn't since 1989 so I'm not sure why it only now is beginning to sink in.I hope it does completely though and she can come to a place where she can just make the record she hears in her head without the commerical considerations.

As I always say top 40 radio sucks today.radio died in the late 80's early 90's,now they all play is RAP Crap and no talent pop rock artist with sh2t voice,Heavy metal noise, and kiddie rock.only classic rock and easylistening we will hear Steve and FM. hahaha I think I rather hear Barry Manilow instead of Eminem any day.

PUBLIC RADIO ROCKS! (At least in Oregon - the rest of you poor things have to contend with crappy radio, sorry! But you can listen online at least!)

I think it's impossible to work in music business without commercial considerations (they can be on different levels, but they're always there if you choose to record), but the right producer and the shape of a real project could be very helpful to win these kinds of doubts. I'm sure it's only matter of time.

because she had probably convinced herself that the only reason why she hadn't had a hit since 1989 was due solely to the fact that she was addicted to klonopin and her "creativity" was sucked out of her ever since; thus resulting in no hit records.... hate to say it, but even if she never did any drugs from 1986-1993, she still most likely would not have had a hit during that time period...

she can't blame klonopin for everything... time does not stand still.. perhaps if she remained consistant throughout those years and worked as hard at staying "popular" as say, Madonna, she could have.... but very very unlikely

Personally, I would LOVE to see Stevie throwing commercial considerations to the wind and simply fulfilling the artist inside - being true to herself and to heck with radio, fans, critics - just do what SHE wants to do.... I wish I had contact with her and be able to persuade her that at this point in her life, she needs to be a little like Joni Mitchell, and become a true artist in every sense of the word and indulge her art!

No, i am implying that Madonna is a business woman who is consumed with staying popular.. she has built a career based on controversy more so than content and it has payed off for her... that is why she is one of the only artists left over from the 80's still played on current top 40 radio..

That's why they should have been listening to the radio and they would have picked a different song. While WTWCT is catchy, and Thrown Down is classic, I didn't hear a radio hit from SYW until track 11 RTTG. With what was being played on the radio at that time, RTTG would have gotten some airplay. Not Peaskeeper, not SYW. SYHA would have been good too, and I think they did release it, but the stations were already poisoned by PK and SYW, so it didn't have a chance. Same thing happened with TISL -- there is no pop radio friendly song until Love Changes. Now I know many of you are groaning right now, but with what was being played on Star 94 and Q100 here in Atlanta at the time, it would have fit right in and gotten air time. I think our musicians and their record companies just are not really in tune with what is really happening in music right now, and are relying on eachother to tell them what will sell or not. SUX!!!

i TOTALLY agree with "Love Changes"...

i think it is one of the few songs that could have been a single off TISL.. it has a very modern feel to it and is catchy

But that's the only way it could have worked for her. Madonna didn't have a substantial talent in music or songwriting to start with so she had to choose other ways to be noticed. She is very business wise but became also ridiculous at times (especially with the Britney episode

). Stevie is an artist who probably doesn't feel now she could reach her public and possibly find a new one through the channels she's always used. I think she just needs the right project or producer to give her confidence.

I believe Stevie is completely oblivious as to who her public is at this point... yes, she needs confidence... but more so, she needs to take a risk and go into a new direction.. it is the ONLY way she can possibly survive as an artist.. she cannot rest on "Rhiannon" and "Landslide" much longer.. in fact, I would venture to say that this is probably her last year where she can do that..

Radio has been absolutely no help for artists on independent labels, but the article that glitter_fades linked to gives some hope for the near future... so hopefully Stevie will see what a good thing it would be for her artistically and financially to move to an indy.
