Too bad the song is a piece of ****. Nothing can polish that turd.

Is there ANYTHING at all that you do like on Street Angel?! a guitar solo? a note even?! The way some people talk about SA is as if it's the single most unlistenable piece of **** evah. That's so ridiculous.

Hey Bryan... wow, I haven't seen you posting in AGES.
I've missed seeing you around. How have you been?

(By the way, there are plenty of us who do find a lot of value in 'Street Angel,' so no worries. )

"Blue Denim" is awesome and "Love Is Like A River" is a scorcher. "Rose Garden" has its moments. Otherwise the album is pretty much a stinker.

I know that Dissention really loathes this album. I listened to it a lot when it first came out, but if I put it in these days- ewwww. Not good.

Hey!! aw you are just the sweetest! i've been great, thanks for asking!

Good to know there's lots who appreciate Street Angel. Though it's as if its become oh-so-fashionable for some fans to look for the negative in it and rip into it. I think that's gotten really old.

Well, I like it. Especially in comparison to the overproduced sludge that it's surrounded by.

It's crap, imo. Sure, there are a couple of good lyrics here and there, I really love the title track, but that really is about it. She doesn't sound good, the production is murky, her creativity was zapped, etc. There's nothing to it, it's simply dull.

I actually like the lyrics, even though they're simple. I mean if you keep with Towie's perspective in his first post, they're kinda heartbreaking really, you know "you still get to me, but it's plain to see, because of how I look, I don't get to you anymore." Sad really.

Plus, I don't think the vocal is too bad on Blue Denim, although it's killah on the Leno and Letterman performances.

Blue Denim is by far the best song on Street Angel for me. It's a mediorce album for sure, but it stands out a mile, in a good way I mean.

I don't think it's crap, but it's definitely dull and mediorce and in many ways that's worse.

I sometimes put it on and think, that's pleasant enough, but I've gone years without listening to it (bar Blue Denim) before. I can't say that for any of Stevie's other albums. It doesn't draw you back, although I know some people here like it.

I've found a lot of new respect for Street Angel after reading a thread here a while back about "Docklands". I couldn't for the life of me remember that song. FREAKY...not going into that again, but there's a lot on there I really like. My old standby favorites have always been Blue Denim, Rose Garden and Listen to the Rain (LOVE THIS ONE - it rocks and anyone that doesn't recognize that? is a LAME-O). But I think Kick-it ain't bad and her vocals sound pretty good on songs I hate like Unconditional Love. That song sucks but she sounds great in it.

Well said.

The worst thing for me is if I'm bored by an album. Street Angel bores me to tears and there's nothing on it that really makes me want to listen to it. Her creativity was zapped and that album is the product of it. She relied heavily on outside material, and the stuff that she wrote was just silly and lifeless. "No, no, no...there's no Beauty and the Beast here." Fech.

Ya know- I pulled out TISL and listened to it going back and forth to work for three four days. I was surprised out how extremely uneven this record is.

(A) Trouble in Shangri-La
(B) Candlebright
(C) Sorcerer
(A) Planets of the Universe
(D) Every Day
(D-) Too Far from Texas
(F) That Made me Stronger
(F) It's Only Love
(F) Love Changes
(A) I Miss You
(C) Bombay Sapphires
(A) Fall From Grace
(B+) Love Is

GPA - 2.15

The middle of the album is soooo weak. I don't understand how Stevie would say this is her masterpiece- compare it to Bella Donna:

(A) Bella Donna
(B) Kind of Woman
(B) Stop Draggin' my Heart Around
(B) Think About It
(B) After the Glitter Fades
(A) Edge of Seventeen
(C) How Still my Love
(C) Leather and Lace
(A) Outside The Rain
(A) The Highwayman

GPA - 3.4

Or how about The Other Side of the Mirror?

(B) Rooms On Fire
(B+) Long Way to Go
(D)Two Kinds of Love
(A) Ooh My Love
(B)Ghosts
(C+) Whole Lotta Trouble
(C)Fire Burning
(F) Cry Wolf
(B) Alice
(B+) Juliet
(A) Doing the Best I Can (Escape from Berlin)
(D) I Still Miss Someone (Blue Eyes)

GPA - 2.54

Howzabout Street Angel?

(B+) Blue Denim
(F) Greta
(C) Street Angel
(F) Docklands
(F) Listen to the Rain
(C) Destiny
(F) Unconditional Love
(B) Love is like a River
(B) Rose Garden
(C) Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind
(D) Just Like a Woman
(D-) Kick It
(B) Jane

GPA - 1.53

You have GOT to be kidding. That's the worst song on the album. The lyrics are atrocious...

I think SA is not her best and I agree that it is lacking, for me, mostly in the lyrics, but I am very grateful it was released because I think Blue Denim, Rose Garden and Destiny are amazing and maybe we wouldn't have those songs if not for SA. I myself can listen to the album front to back with no problem but I don't find myself really getting the same emotion from it that I do her other albums.
