I like SDMHA, but I don't love it. It may be that it's one of Stevie's more overplayed songs - this is usually the one I hear on the radio. I prefer the album version over recent live versions, but I do love it on the 1981 In Concert video. It's done too low now, and it seems to me like she's just going through the motions at most shows - no emotion, no fire (as compared the recent renditions of Sorcerer or B&tB, for example.)
The music is rockin' & that I like. The lyrics - eh. Not the best, not the worst. There are tons more tunes by Stevie (and Petty, for that matter) that I prefer over this one. I love the video - nothing fancy, just Stevie & Tom singing with the band jamming. Good stuff. In conclusion, it's a good song. I don't skip it. I do sing along. I do dance to it when I see her do it live. It's just not one of my favorites. How do YOU feel about Stop Draggin' My Heart Around? |

I loved it when it first came out but now I'm kind of tired of it...... I do have to agree though that the version from the '81 concert is awesome--every song she sang at that concert was unbelievable and so full of energy--my favorite concert video--maybe ever!! Could never understand why it wasn't put out on DVD--especially before Red Rocks Love love love the video though with the hair bead thing going on Amy |

It's a damn good song. The lyrics are right on. The vocals are right on. I think it was a great way to begin her solo career. She went out of the gate rocking. With that being said, I don't think it should be played live anymore. It's out of her range, and she sings it w/o Tom. After the Wild Heart Tour, it should have been left for special performances. She had a lot of hits and SDMHA wouldn't have been missed that much.

If we're talking about the live version, then drop it already.
But I have a great fondness for the studio version. |

if the magic wish-granting-faerie came to my door, right after i was done redecorating and losing twenty pounds - SDMHA would be forever retired from live performances. it is the one song that i want OUT of the setlist, never to return until she's actually singing it with tom petty at some random event. then i will love it as i once-upon-a-time did.

I love this song. It will be excellent if Tom Petty joins Stevie on tour like Don Henley did earlier. that will be awesome with Tom and Don on the same show.I think i'm asking for to much, huh. lol..

My love for this song is powerful and enduring. It knows no boundaries of time or space. Except the space and time of doing it live, now. I still like it, but she's tooootally welcome to drop it for something new.

I like it. Would like it more live with tom petty doing his part, I believe.

I'm not a great fan of this song, never have been. I don't know why it just doesn't involve me. It's the same thing for Outside The Rain.

I much prefer the live versions now, because I feel they have a little bit more "kick" than the studio version. Just my opinion.

Uh, drop it already. The only recent performance of it that I like is Stevie's drunken, lyric forgetting one with Sheryl Crow. I strongly dislike Waddy attempting to do Tom Petty's vocals and it is just way out of Stevie's range these days. Sorry.

One of my favorite performances of it was Stevie & the Tom Pettybreakers at the Mulholland Tomorrow show in 1985. She did it in a trenchcoat! |

2 words - Waddy Wachtel. That kills it for me every time.
