Ah, "curtains matching the carpets" is a nice, euphemistic way of asking if the color of hair on one's head matches their pubic hair.

The thing that Kate said that's really a stretch was that Peter was a hack. No matter what you think of him or his music, by no stretch of the imagination was Peter a hack. A hack is a guy accepts any project handed down to him from his superiors -- he's out to make a living only & if he takes on a project that might be unsuitable to his temperament or talent, he does so for the money.

Based on what we all know of Peter's history, he was the opposite of a hack.
