The song and her delivery are the pits. She sings so deeply that you wonder if she has her own pair of low-hangers.

It makes Chanel Chanel sound like a Little Richard anthem.

She performed it in Dallas, October of '91 at the International Tribute to Jane Goodall. I'm not sure if Jane was there or not though.

I remember reading during the SA days that she had been there.

The song itself is fab, just not her version. It would be better without the carny music.

I like it. I just don't think the music goes with the lyrics. The song is too serious for that type of music.

yeah, but i think the music gives that song a little character... whether that's a good thing or a bad thing, you can decide for yourself

Ooh I forgot about that one and I can't stand it. She should not have included that on such a beautiful album. Doesn't fit in and I have to say I agree that thy lyrics do not go with the music. It's one of the most mismatched songs in her catalouge. That song is wrong on so many levels! I wonder how Johnny felt about it?

I agree, they don't go together. I think it was Christy who said that it was carny music and I think she hit it on the head. It's not bad, but it's not great, either. The best versions are from Johnny Cash and Emmylou Harris, imo. Linda Ronstadt does a good one, too, but I think the other two do the best ones.

Yeah but I just heard Johnny do that Depeche Mode cover the other day, and it was painful. Covers are tricky.
