Yeah, this is true, it dates from 5/8/79, and Hernan Rojas is present as well. There is, however, a much longer, DRONING demo of this song that dates either from RAL or TOSOTM. The running time is 8:02. It's hard to tell the time period from her vocal on this one, but it's not as strong as most of her RAL vocals, and she sounds sad and tired.

Are you talking about the one with the nice baking vocals at the end by Sharon and Lori? I always thought the probelm with that demo (other than the quality) was just tape drag.

I just listened to 5/8/79 and it cracked me up.
Also, about If You Were My Love-There is a reel from 3/10/81 with Waddy and Jimmy Iovine talking to each other in the begining. It doesn't sound anything like the Mirage Version nor the tropical SA version. So it would appear that this song was in consideration for Bella Donna. Pity it hasn't made it on to a record yet.

You know, it could be tape drag. It's hard to tell with Stevie somtimes.

I never much cared for If You Were My Love, except for the version you mentioned recorded 3/10/81. That one is really nice.

When I first heard Dial The Number before we all got the storage unit demos, I didn't like the song. But I really couldn't get a feel for it from the demos I had previously heard. But once I heard a clear version, I fell in love with the song. Same with the alternate version of Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind. And I'll NEVER forget the first time I heard Julia in it's full glory. Love at first listen.

Oh yes. Until those masters came out, the only copy of Julia I had was from a cassette I got in 1989. I had to turn the volume up all the way to hear what Stevie was singing, and even then I could barely make out the lyrics. I always thought Julia was so mysterious...and the opening lyrics are great!

Someone mentioned the reissue of Rock A Little... I really hope we get some word of these reissues very soon. I'll be disappointed if Rock A Little is not included. It will be great to finally get a CD release with the lyric pages printed in the correct order!

I wish Stevie would hold a focus group so we could give her our input about what demos and alternates to include with the reissues.

If only! In her heart, if she doesn't want to make any more records than she should definitely reissue all of her past releases and include all of the fabulous songs that were left off.

I know there are those who love that version, but, to my ears, it's just hideous. She doesn't even sound like she WANTS to sing it.
Maybe it's a document of one of Glyn Johns' production ideas that Stevie disliked, so she didn't even bother to sound like she cared.

I just lost practically all my demos & reels & **** in a massive CD burn that went awry.

I feel like a brand-new fan all over again, with nothing to trade! It's a cleansing feeling, but it takes some getting used to.

I don't like that SA take of If You Were My Love either... I described it once as sounding like someone ate the Bella Donna and Mirage versions, drank a pina colada, and puked them up together on the shores of The Bahamas.

I have to wonder if the record company pushed Stevie to go with Glyn Johns in order to avoid another Rock A Little type fiasco.

Thank goodness this song has never seen a release! It's just so...weird! I do love All The Beautiful Worlds...that would have fit in really well on Rock A Little. Right in between No Spoken Word and HAEWAFY.
