Reba has recorded countless traditional country songs just like the others you mentioned.

yeah I dont particularly care for country either. But I do like some of the greats like Ronnie Milsap, and some of Willie Nelson's stuff. I also like a newer group called Nickel Creek....EXCELLENT musicians...but they are more bluegrass/country.

That's the only one I really changed my mind on. The rest of the bands I like I knew I liked immediatly.

They should be paying Josh & Co. a part of their royalties.

I'm not a country buff, except for the artists I mentioned, so I'm sure you're right, but the majority of stuff I've heard from her is country pop fluff that I couldn't stand. I'm not a huge fan of her voice, either.

Yeah, you never know what else an artist has recorded besides the stuff you heard on the radio. Think of Fleetwood Mac, for instance. But one of Reba's albums had so many fluffly pieces of crap hits that I didn't even bother to buy it to see if the other tracks were good. She's an experimenter, though, and sometimes when she tries new things, it doesn't work. I can see what you mean about the voice. Some singers are amazingly talented but their voices don't appeal to everyone. I can't really take Emmylou Harris' voice, but I know well that it's fantastic. For some reason I personally don't like it and I have never been able to explain that.

I violently disliked U2 at that time too. That record was so overplayed, and I thought Bono was a pretentious, pompous ass who overworked his vocal break.

My feelings about Bono haven't changed, but I do like about 8 or 9 songs out of their catalogue. Though I can only take about 4 songs in a row, due to the vocal break abuse. It grates on me. I do think they have some great songs, however.

I despise Reba! There is something about her that makes me want to vomit all over myself. I can not stand her voice either, it is so shrill and nasal.

ITA. Oh, and With or Without You eventually became one of my favorite songs.

I become violently ill when I hear U2. I think I'm allergic to them. Bono (or has he been annointed God yet?) needs to disappear.

Them's fightin' words.

I never gave Emmylou any attention until she released Wrecking Ball ten years ago and then I became a convert. I have so much respect for artists who push themselves to create fresh and exciting music as they get older and she's genius to me. It's quite a task to find artists who create their best work more than twenty years after they started. The whole voice thing is understandable, though. Like Celine. I can't stand to hear her, but she is amazingly talented as a singer.

Sounds like Reba! She started over twenty years ago (actually over thirty now) and I think some of her most recent work is the best she's ever done. She's always doing something new. Anyway, I'll stop. I'm running it into the ground.

It takes me awhile to get into people sometimes. Sometimes I'm just behind everyone else. I discovered Ani DiFranco about two years ago. What was I doing before? I discovered PJ Harvey a few months ago. And I just started thinking I need to buy a Tori Amos CD a couple of weeks ago. I'm just slow. When I was a little kid all I listened to was Carly Simon, practically, and then when I was a teenager I listened to almost nothing but crap. I have to catch up.

Damn right they should! Didn't we write a letter to Debs one time about this?

These days I love them both, and can't figure out for the life of me why it was that I didn't like them (maybe they were overplayed?).

Are there any singers or bands that you just couldn't stand at some point in time, but that you're now a fan of?
LORD...Beyonce, hands down! I used to talk about a bitch something terrible, then, Crazy In Love came out and so did I...and it's been me and B since then. LOL.

Did you happen to catch any of their concerts in SF a couple months ago? Best damn "europopfagpop" show you'll ever see...
