I think you all have a point. Someone could be pulling our legs and it's also very possible that this is totally genuine. I prefer the former. This world doesn't need more of the latter.

OH! Did I ever miss a good time last night! I was on page 3 when the hackers crashed the party. I was already putting myself into restraints to keep from feeding the troll... For a while there, she was exhibiting some truly High Priestess-like qualities. Anything HERE ring a BELL? I am the ALL KNOWING. You are SCUM! Go back to YOUR end of the POOL!! You are IN over your HEAD!!

She seems to have left us. Pity. I guess hubby wasn't home last night performing his husbandly duties. Missy seemed to have a lot of extra time on her hands...

I respectfully disagree - Large cities like New York are amongst the most racist places I have ever seen. They are also extremely class conscious, etc. So, I think it is just people in general, which is more frightening to me.

I am agreeing with Strand...there are a few bad apples everywhere and in the South there is a notion that most people are prejudice. I was born in Florida, and I lived in Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Louisiana and Mississippi. All of these are VERY steeped-in-tradition southern states. And yet...I can think of a time when my family could have been blatantly prejudice. I dated a beautiful African American girl in high school and we were the only interacial couple at my prom. My parents were totally cool with it...and I dont remember ANYONE making a big deal out of it.

and, we all do it whether we want to admit it or not. I mean when was the last time any of us hung out with people or a social sect we did not like I think it is human nature and though I wish it would end, I still want the right to do it as we all do in one way or another.

I've always thought that perhaps the bad apples are more apparent in the SOuth because there is a stereotype that if you are from the South, you are not as intelligent as the West Coast or the Northeast. Also, in places like New York, there are so many people in such little space that it gives the appearance of a hand holding pseudo homogeneous society - it is far from that.

I am so completely guilty of it and I know that - I also think a lot of people are - I mean if you have the means you're not going to live in some inner-city ghetto ya know?

I know it's alive and well - because everyone is a part of it

Interestingly, it existed even in the Communistic states of the USSR and China. I mean someone was living in those palaces while others were living 10 to a room. In the end, I guess I think it is not a de facto bad thing, but some can take it to a bad place.

I figured that the classism was alive and well in a place like New York, but the racism is, too? I guess I just assumed that wasn't alive there. But is it inevitably linked to the classim, y'all think?

I've been reading in this forum for at least a year, only posting for a couple of months. Anyway, my point is, I have a hard time keeping up with who is who. Specifically, who is male and who is female. gypsy.rose (or rose.gypsy, whatever) seemed to know a lot about the people she/he was insulting.

Depends which parts of New York. Boston used to have problems with racism (especially in the late eighties after a man killed his wife and blamed it on a mysterious black man), but not nowadays. Seattle used to be overrun by neo-Nazis, too.
