My BTM tastes have never been the popular ones.

I love Freedom. Period.
The Second Time would be better with a softer vocal, like in Goodbye Baby.
Love Is Dangerous is okay, but tries a bit too hard.
AOTH is one of my least favorites anywhere. The only decent part is "But I thought that this was just for now/And that time would take its toll upon us all..." but the next lines have such a strained vocal the moment is ruined.

I think the song BTM is great. I don't like any of Chris's other songs here (and I like Chris) except for When It Comes To Love with Billy, and I don't like any of his other songs here either, except for When The Sun Goes Down, but I dislike Stand On The Rock. And it seems everybody else hates WTSGD and WICTL.

Like I said, I have mixed & unpopular feelings towards this album.

Agreed.
The common sentiment here is that Stevie's best Mac songs are on Tusk, but I think they're on Mirage.

First of all, I think the term masterpiece is thrown around a little too carelessly around here. Stevie's BTM contributions are okay. They were much better than on Tango, however.

"Seven Wonders" has never impressed me much. And WISYA is among the worst songs she's ever recorded...

Jeez...Maybe it's embarassing to admit but all the songs that have been mentioned in this thread I love.
"Seven Wonders''...ONE of my top favorite songs from the late 80's (almost one of my favs of ALL time! No joke!) I love just turning that song on on a hot day and it either makes me wanna swim, or drive!
"Sister Honey"...don't even get me started on that one! Love it to death! It IS very sexual. AND it's just plain fun! Very funky.
And as for "Maybe Love"...I love the alternate/demo version of it, too. And I have to agree and say that "spritely" is a very good word to discribe it. It's so upbeat, that makes it a "pop masterpiece" automatically. It has "early-90's-radio-hit" written all over it!!! Too bad it didn't do too well on the charts. It's only because Stevie didn't seem real 'hip' at the time in the public's eyes. (But she always seems hip to me, no lie).
ANYWAY. I really like Stevie's contributions on BTM.
"Love Is Dangerous" is some of the best Hard Country Rock that you can listen to in 3 minutes.
"Affairs Of The Heart" is cute, and has nice lyrics. That's about it.
"Freedom" is a decent rocker. It's actually kind of catchy.
And "The Second Time" is sad and reflective, but nobody really would understand what she is talking about unless they are a die hard fan.
I have to say I love "In The Back Of My Mind" (fav track on the whole album) and Stevie's background vocals are the highlight. I love that part "Remember..." right in the middle. It's CHILLING!! And her lead vocals with Burnette are awesome also. She really sounds witchy there.

True. But she had no part in writing that, other than to mumble "Pharaoh," "Tara" or whatever. (NOT MEANT TO RESTART DEBATE.)

Yep! I used to dislike the song, but after I heard the alternate version, I realized what the song was SUPPOSED to sound like, and it sounds good to me! Makes me feel good when I listen to it! And that is what makes a great pop song, right?
