He was the band's bass player for a few weeks, before John McVie decided that quitting John Mayall for the band that was partially named after him was a good idea. But, technically, he's an original member of Fleetwood Mac.

Incidentally, I too vote for Bob Brunning.

Never read the book, but he wasn't in any of the incarnations of FM that I care about... so he gets the boot.

I would vote for Mick, 'cause I REALLY CAN'T STAND HIM, but I'll let him pass this round 'cause he is a founding member (yeah, so is Brunning, but like I said, I don't care about him.)
