Here Chris says the rest of the band weren't that keen on what Stevie played them of "Dreams." Way back in 1980 on the Source Fleetwood Mac interview, Stevie says that she played it for them & that "they weren't nuts about it."

But didn't Stevie say more recently (since 1997 or so) that "they loved it" when she first played it?

Am I the only one who doesn't think it's such a big deal that Stevie wanted to have a solo career? It's like some people blame her for going out on her own but then turn around and blame her for saying that she liked working with FM and wanted to come back to FM. She had every right to have a solo career, as did Lindsey, and everyone else in the band. So what's the big deal?

If I had been Stevie Nicks at that point, I would have gone RUNNING ... indeed, SCREAMING RUNNING to a solo career. I can imagine what it's like to hang around a group of people who all have a skill (in this case, playing instruments) that I don't have, & having to try to talk to them about tasks at hand pertaining to that skill or requiring that skill, & feeling very left out, & feeling as if they all thought I was a tad stupid & that I had nothing of much value to add to the proceedings.

I'd have fled that environment so fast that Studio D in Village Recorder would have been left spinning.

It's human nature. I think Stevie started soloing as much for that reason as for the other reason she gives -- that she wanted to get surplus songs recorded & out to people.

Fans on these boards are too narrow-minded in their interpretations of events & feelings & comments. Most people are complex mixtures of emotions & stances & preferences, & can't be labeled so easily. For example, you can be great friends with someone & still get extremely irritated with that person (or vice versa). You can feel very close -- almost like a sibling -- to someone & still dread doing certain things with that person, like a specific hobby or activity. Some of us who play or sing or something like that might like performing for some people but not for others -- for example, we don't want members of our family to hear us play the piccolo, but we love playing the piccolo for friends & strangers in a big crowd.

I think a part of Stevie has always dreaded doing music with Fleetwood Mac, either onstage or in the studio. It can't -- it just CAN'T -- have been very enjoyable for her. Remember, her inability to play an instrument or discuss a chord progression or a production effect did not hinder her status when she was in the studio with HER session players & best friends. In that environment, she was still queen of the heap. In Fleetwood Mac, she was not queen of the heap -- especially not when the band was tracking.

I think the trick is to take them seriously without taking them too seriously.
At the end of the day they're just a group of disparate individuals who got lucky and hit it big, and we're a group of disparate individuals passing our time talking about them.

To each their own, I guess. I believe that her FM songs are her best work and her solo work pales in comparision, but that is just my measly little opinion.

As far as saving better songs for TITN, most of her songs around that era where crap anyway. So what's she going to do...replace WISYA with Whole Lotta Trouble?? (again, my opinion, only b/c I don't like that song)
