That is really great that she is a fan now! I think that No One Here Gets Out Alive is a very fair portrait of Jim Morrison. It shows the ups and the downs/the good with the bad. I also recommend Riders on the Storm by the Doors' drummer, John Densmore. It is a excellent book as well and also a fair portrait.

I've never read John Densmore's book. I'll have to check it out.

Maybe that's just a lame old guy who happens to be named Jim Morrison and he's trying to capitalize on it??

I know a dude who's name is Bill Wyman and he once got an actual letter from Bill Wyman of the ROlling Stones' lawyer telling to cease and desist the use of his name

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...storyId=844515

I remember hearing about something similar happening to a guy named Don Henley, who runs the site don-henley.com, or Donald Henley's Christian Perspectives. They talked about it on VH1 (I think) a few years back. DH's lawyers sent him a letter to cease and disist from the use of the domain name (apparently at the time, the guy also had a DH discography posted to placate any wayward websurfers, but with statements acknowledging that the webmaster's name is Don Henley, but he isn't a musician.) The site is still up, but the last update is posted as 8/2/00.

I enjoyed this quite a bit too. Wasn't John Densmore a consultant on The Doors ? Seems like I heard something about that back in the day...

That movie? Creeped me out.

Val Kilmer looked nearly identical to JM. Freaky.

Yup. I'm sure Stone embellished quite a bit (as is his way) but he did do a great job with Val. I think John Densmore (or maybe it was Ray Manzarek?) commented that he felt really weird on the set because Val was so creepily identical to Jim. I guess that would be weird.

Yes, he was a consultant for the movie. If you read his book you can see the parts in the movie that he helped to add, because there are a few things he discusses in the book that end up in the movie.

That is pretty weird. I haven't read Densmore's book either but did read NHGOA and was riveted. What a crazy, dangerous, gifted man he was.
