Thanks for the compliment. I guess I got a little of my voice from my mother. She has the most amazing voice; I wish I could sing like her. She was offered a recording contract fresh out of high school, but her parents refused to let her take it. They didn't think that was the right kind of life for a "lady." They wanted her to go to college, so she went and gave up her dream. I just have to tell myself that she grew up in a different time (She graduated high school in 1965) than I did, and things were different then, especially in Tupelo, Mississippi (which is where she grew up).

Although, she turned out to be an exceptional teacher (I guess that is the silver lining, if there is one). She doesn't like to talk about it. It is really sad.....what could have been for her.

Do you play an instrument? If so, what kind(s) and for how long?
I started playing clarinet and moved to the oboe. The band needed tuba players, so I picked up the tuba for marching band. I played bassoon throughout high school and majored in it in college. I'm a serviceable rhythm guitar player- I prefer playing 12-string acoustic. I'm a better piano player and I prefer it to all other instruments these days.

Can you sing? What is your octave range and voice type (i.e. tenor, alto, etc.)?
I am a tenor. I've been singing since I was a little kid. I also majored in voice in college. My "chest voice" range is B an octave below middle C to C# an octave above middle C. With falsetto, I can go fairly high, however I don't really prefer my falsetto voice.

Do you write songs? Just music? Only lyrics?
I have many songs under my belt. My band released two CD's- both to not much acclaim, although I am proud of them. The music industry is all who you know and has nothing to do with talent.

Have you ever dreamt of or seriously considered being a musician?
I was a working musician supported by my day job for 15 years. Sometimes fun, sometimes not so fun. It's not all it's cracked up to be. Again, unless you have connections or don't mind sacrificing your muse to banality, the music business is not for you.

What genre of music would you prefer to create?
You can hear what I created here:

Okay, I mostly play my six string (since I was 15). It's been awhile since I've played piano, but I used to do that, too (started age 10). I have bongos at home and a pan pipe. I play anything that's available, even if I don't know how to play. I don't know how to read music for guitar, I just either make it up or figure things out by listening.

Can you sing? What is your octave range and voice type (i.e. tenor, alto, etc.)?

I DO sing, but am I good at it? I don't really think so. I wasn't born a goldenthroat, that's for sure. I'm pretty critical about my voice, but singing is something that I can't help doing. When I was in high school, I was an alto, but I was better suited singing with the tenor boys .

Do you write songs? Just music? Only lyrics?

I compose both just music and music with lyrics. I don't have much care for lyrics, so some of my songs have vocals where I'm singing pure jibberish.

Have you ever dreamt of or seriously considered being a musician?

Oh yeah... I'm not doing much of anything else with my life, really.

What genre of music would you prefer to create?

Well, I can't say until I know all of the genres out there. I hope to never be faithful to just one genre, though.

Actually, some of my songs are posted on this CBC related website, if anyone is interested in hearing them. You'll need RealPlayer to hear them:
