I can admit that Lindsey was totally washed-up, but La Nicks was just as much washed-up as he was. No one is arguing against the fact that she was always a bigger star, which, in my opinion, kinda makes her more of a has-been in the public eye (or at least in the smut rags) than he was because she fell the furthest at that particular time. You can point to Letterman and all that other **** from 1994 (which doesn't really matter because her record still bombed, just like his, and her tour bombed, just like his), but no one was talking about 1994, I was discussing the time when The Dance rolled around. You know, the time when they needed each other to make money and possibly further their career.
I think I said I agree her career and his were both in decline - nice try at the spin though

My point is, she was still getting out there and she was trying to come back. He was to my knowledge doing nothing of the sort and still working on a solo record that it took HER to come back to FM to get release like seven years later But, back to the point at hand, the response she got at those "free" concerts was big and that she was even asked to do a movie song, which she had, in case you forgot, been doing since like 1980 - was indicative that she still had some popularity left. He had nothing approaching that and he was not really doing anything to get it. That is all I am saying.

And - probably more people saw her in two weeks of her SA tour than all of his OOTC tour Thus, my point, which is even in her decline, she was still a larger star. And - let's compare album sales from that era shall we

A never-was that she never would have had a career without, most definitely.

For that matter, CM was a talentless hag who relied on LB as well. It all comes down to him. He is the only one with any talent and they ought to all kiss his ass daily for it because without him they would all be nothing and that he could not sustain that on his own is meaningless

Don't forget, Fleetwood Mac wanted him.

mmmkay. But she did have a career without him. But sure, yeah, why not? It's as logical as the other stuff you said. Heck, I've swallowed worse.

McVie/McVie/Fleetwood/Buckingham would have had Top 40 hits, but it was Stevie's styles that really put them on the map.

She did? If it wasn't for her hooking with Buckingham in the first place, she wouldn't have gone anywhere. Would have been just another Californian singer-songwriters trying to eat. He's the one who forced Fleetwood Mac to take her and that little act of kindness is what gave her her career.

Did she have more name recognition in 1996 compared to him? Hell yes. Was the general public chomping at the bit to see him in 1996? Hell no. Was the general public chomping at the bit to see her in 1996? Hell no. Point being, they were both has-beens. Their meal ticket had been collected years earlier and they both needed each other equally to come back into the spotlight. I never once said he picked her career up from the ashes because they did that for each other. That's my opinion, take it or leave it.

and THAT, my dear recently dematriculated one, is the very thing the people that love the highly talented (serious here) LB cannot abide as they see Stevie as a talentless hack unrequitedly who used LB at every step of the way.

I never believed that and I never will. What put them on the map was the chemistry between Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie.

Well, that is just one side of it - how far would FM have gone without her? Would Mick have discovered him in the sutdio were it not for her ambition? Yet, you are loathe to point that out - I think you are being deliberately contrary

They both needed a kick in the ass in '96. They knew that a FM Reunion would do that. However, if one showed and the other did not, it would have flopped. A collaboration between those two was definately needed. No question about it.

If the Reunion would have never happened...Lindsey would just have hibernated in the studio and Stevie would be playing in Vegas....oh, wait.

To be sure the chemistry was apparent and highly so, but she had something CM and LB did not and never will have. I mean to this day people go crazy for her in a way that is rarely seen.

Boy - they were just a linin' up to see that Lindsey Buckingham back then then, esp. based on those out of the ball park OOTC stadium tour revenues and HUGE album sales - - or it could have been the fact that he, not she, was asked to do a song for a popular movie and he, not she, included her on the recording out of kindness - yep - he sure was a mega star then and she a no name, worthless, forgotten has been - but, I know you post that drivel to incite - so
Jason, I don't think that is what Glitterfades was referring to and you know it. IMO it was simply a matter of who needed who more at the time. LB was the more solvent of the two at the time, by Stevie's own admission. I think the quote from her is something along the lines of "Lindsey doesn't need the money, so he has to want to do it." I think her finances were not in as good a shape as his and so yes, she needed him to do this for her. I do agree however, that it is the magic between these two and even those 5 particular members that made that tour the rousing success that it was.

This argument of... who is the more popular, who needed who more.... would we even know who Stevie Nicks is if it weren't for Lindsey Buckingham.....is pointless. You could even argue further that we wouldn't know who either one of them were if it weren't for Mick Fleetwood, or for that matter Keith Olsen. Yet you don't hear his name bantered around here too often.

As for the Mick/Stevie love affair... I get it. I see it for what it was, when it was.... and I think that Stevie remember's it fondly, for what it did for her at the time. She has also remained very close to Mick and his family and I think all of those feelings are all tied up together, in how she feels about Mick today.

As for Lindsey...Sorry...I'm a shipper. (God how did you guys let one in here.) I believe, no matter how politically incorrect it is to say so on a public message board...that Stevie and Lindsey are madly in love, right now as we speak. It is MHO that they fell back in love during The Dance period....situations arose that caused the relationship to take another path, for awhile, however I think that they grew close again during the making of the SYW album and subsequent tour, and they have finally decided to make a go of it....one more time. I think that his house being for sale is a pretty good indication of an impending divorce, and I was not at all surprised to hear that he was spotted in the mezzanine at Caesar's. I fully expected him to be there as I am sure many other's on this board did as well.

Yes there are a plethora of other reason's for things that are said, looks that are exchanged, songs that are written, houses being put up for sale, etc etc.....but to me this theory of mine is just as plausible as all of the others. Just not as popular. I find it hard to imagine sometimes that when some of you look at them you don't see what I see....that is why I keep it to myself. I know I am swimming upstream here....but man.....when I look at them I see a man and a woman who have been in love with each other for over 30 years. Who have tried to fight it for whatever reason they thought made sense at the time, but have finally come to the conclusion that it is pointless. They love each other and that is that. The show at CP was in my book, entirely about...dedicated to .....and performed for...Lindsey Buckingham. From the name of the show, to the songs chosen, to how fabulous she looked and sounded. That was all for him. Of course, this is only my humble opinion...(I think that is the requisite terminolgy to be used when taking this most unpoplular stance)....and of course I am just a CSF that has somehow escaped and made my way over into foreign lands. But that's ok....to me they are and will forever be Romeo and Juliet....Heathcliff and Cathy....with a little of Homer and Marge thrown in for good measure. If I'm wrong, then I'm wrong and you will get to use the jumpy smiley guy....but if I'm not and I don't think I am.....I do intend to use him just once....to express my shear delight that these two have finally found their way back to each other. I do feel compassion and a great amount of sympathy for the other men and women who have been hurt as a result of this great love. But I have the same amount of compassion and sympathy for Stevie and Lindsey if they do in fact feel the way that I think they do, and in my mind it is no less deserving. Sometimes no matter how hard you try to fight it....you simply cannot deny it. Great great loves...everlasting... soulmate...undying loves... do exist, outside the pages of a fairytale, and I think that this is one of them.

Oh.....and what did all of that have to do with the discussion at hand? Not a damn thing...I just got on a roll and couldn't stop myself.

Oh, no. And, here I was agreeing with the rest of your post.

You gotta remember, Lindsey spent a few weeks of the OotC tour opening for Tina Turner in big venues...it wasn't ONLY Lindsey playing small clubs the whole tour. Plus, Lindsey did BOTH Letterman and Leno, too. So, I think maybe we can give Lindsey the nod on that one.
