Stevie tends to be lazy...she gets insecure about her vocal range I'm sure!
So she sings lower not to disapoint her inconsistencies of being able to count
on her voice being there on the road!She has never ONCE sang Sorcerer HIGH NOTES LIVE!!!! Beauty & The Beast was great in Vegas..I was there..but all in all the show was not that great!!! Total Rehash!!!

One of these days I just want to go a Stevie show and see her tear it up with reckless abandon. Just go ape**** with her voice. One night of screaming won't kill it for good.

Is Everybody Finds Out even a Fleetwood Mac song? It sounds more like a Rupert Hine production that FM just put on the album.

I think releasing Every Day as the first single was the killer for TISL, just like Say You Will and Peacekeeper as singles killed SYW (should have been SYHA and RttG). That too-low voice growling out the lyrics. For what was being played at the time on pop radio, Love Changes would have been a much better choice -- more uptempo, sparser instrumentation, lighter melody, easier-to-sing-along-to lyrics.

Musically, I think TISL was a fine album. Vocally, I think it was fine. Lyrically, I think it was weak. The words put together in the songs don't seem to make sense to me. I don't get the lyrics to TISL (the song), but it is my favorite. I don't get the beginning of POTU. TMMS and IMU, I can't relate to fame, Paris to Rome, and songwriting. She could have used better metaphors to bring the meaning "down" to my level. TFFT should have been done more country. I guess this album is almost "too Nicksian" in some ways to capture a main stream audience.

Come back Jimmy - all is forgiven! In MHO, the albums Iovine produced were far superior to what has followed - he seemed to understand her sound and voice better than anyone. She could go a little ape**** in the studio - I wouldn't mind! The vocals she offered on live performances like hers and Buck's cover of Green Manalishi were mind blowing.... a couple studio songs like that and she'd be getting a whole lot of new fans.

Personally, I'd love to see her bring out a box set of stuff we haven't heard (officially) - clean up some of the gorgeous demos, outtakes and live performances, instead of yet another set that all her fans have already...

I like John Shanks' production. Sheryl Crow's was too sparse, plain and not very inventive. A first year engineering student could have come up with the sound presented on "Candlebright".

The middle of the album is the stinker.

"That Made Me Stronger"
"It's Only Love"
"Love Changes"

All of them stinkers. "Planets of the Universe" should have been the lead-off, across the board single- not just as a dance club track. While I like "Every Day", it's not all that great. "Sorcerer" should have never been a single.

With a few song changes and better marketing/A&R, this album could have been a monster. Instead, it came out roaring and dropped away fairly quickly- the only exception being POTU as a dance track. That sucker went to number one and was in the clubs here in WeHo for quite a bit of time. I think that's probably the most amazing and interesting quirk from this album- a 53 year old "70's dinosaur" rock-n-roller getting a number one dance club single. Awesome.

No dis, you're not the only one who thinks so... it is very obvious that her voice has lost it's strength since '97/'98.. but i don't think she neccessarily "lost it", i just think she holds back way too much.. it's still there, but she's "saving it" for some odd reason... maybe it's the vocal lessons?? i remember hearing how she started to take vocal lessons in 1998... funny, that was the year her voice started to sound thinner and much more guarded..

John Shanks was definately the better of the two producers used for TISL..

I think TISL is definitely Stevie's masterpiece. I never thought I could love an album as much as RAL but this just about surpasses it in my book. She may not take a whole lot of chances vocally but the final product is beautiful. This is the best she has sounded since the early 80's. There are several songs on this album that are on my list of favorite Stevie songs including Bombay Sapphires, TISL, and Fall From Grace. However I could have done without Too Far from TX and That Made me Stronger (insert Space Needle).

I believe the album did not do as well as it should have because they made the mistake of releasing Everyday as the first single which is a mediocre song at best. There were far better songs they could have released that would have increased sales of the album. In fact I don't think Everyday should have been released as a single at all, let alone the lead single.

I agree that Planets should have lead off the album. I would have put out Sorceror next....Everyday...and end with Fall From Grace

Precisely. Though I love It's Only Love. I think that what really makes the second half so jarring is listening to the first-half. Duh.

The title track, Candlebright, Sorcerer, POTU, Every Day (which I don't care for but it flows incredibly well), and then BAM Too Far From Texas and the other stinkers, all plopped together. It doesn't really pick up until the fabulous I Miss You, then two more great songs, and then a slow stinker to close it. Horrid sequencing.

Also, it seems to me that the album starts off with four rather dark songs, then gets stuck in this poppy, we've-got-to-make-it-a-bit-happier rut until it reaches the final stretch. I think it would have been amazing if she had included Space Needle, Touched By An Angel, and even Not Make Believe.

Was FFG ever released as a single? If not huge mistake. That song is a clear hit.

What should have? The title track. With a little tweaking and shortening for radio, it would have kicked balls. Start off with the title track, segue into Fall From Grace, and end the singles with Planets of the Universe. It would have let the world know that the rocker chick was back, not a rocker chick turned AC grandma that they were led to believe she was with the release of Every Day.
