A Fleetwood Mac DVD without "Oh Well" (by ANY incarnation) when one is available is SHAMEFUL, simply SHAMEFUL.

Songbird: Japan concert (whatever)

Perhaps we could swap "Albatross" for "Oh Well" if Option 2 wins... or add "Oh Well" to Option1 if it wins.

(I still want to know though... is "Oh Well" not on the DVD version of 'The Early Years'? Because it's most certainly on my VHS copy, and as much as I love the song and Peter Green, why double-up on something from a previous lineup, that's already available?)

All in all, it looks like this poll showed how similar, yet utterly disimilar, so many fans' tastes are.
Who felt that no collection would be complete without "Songbird"... who felt that we've seen and heard it enough.
Who felt that a compilation without "Oh Well" would be sacrilegious... and who felt that the collection should focus solely on the years following 1975.

And yet, there were so many others songs that we ALL said must be included, and were pretty much "no-brainers."

Guess we're as diverse as the various Mac members themselves.

Lightbulb Oh Well

Johnny Stew,

I agree with ChiliD, to have a Mac compilation without "Oh Well" would not be a good thing, even if we have to replace, as Greeny put it "Albert Ross" it would be better than not having it at all.

Just think what a powerful opening the DVD would have with Peter Green and Danny Kirwan firing out the riffs of "Oh Well" and with Peter grinning to himself in confidence, instead of a rather slow start with Albatross. (?)

Cool

'Songbird' from the Mirage Concert if we have to choose. Chris and Lindsey are just so sweet on that version.

About 'Oh Well', if there are so many people that want it...can we just ask Ken if it could fit it on wich ever option wins? If it can, great! I mean it couldn't hurt to ask right? Maybe he could fit all the songs in the option that wins, plus 'Oh Well'.

Exclamation Johnny Stew

I'd certainly be all for replacing the redundant (for this comp anyways) "Albatross" with "Oh well" (or adding it to the other list if that one wins) but I think these ARE the FINAL lists ("Songbird" seems to be the only area up for possible debate) as they seem to want to get a list sent off to Ken without further delay so I guess "Oh well" is not to be.

There is "A" version of "Oh well" on the "Early years" release (VHS & DVD) but it is NOT the version that certainly appears to be on the "video comp reel" as this is listed next to actual "live" performances that were performed on a British TV show that did appear on the "Early years" disc (such as "Like crying" & "Linda") but if you haven't seen it, it's a great live version of the song, parts of it have appeared on some of those British FM documentaries such as "The Story of FM" & "FM at 21" and this (I thought) would have been a great addition to the release as this version doesn't appear on the "Early years" video comp for some bizarre reason. The version that IS on there is interesting "video wise", but, admittedly, not "audio wise" as they seem to be lip synching to the audio live track of the song that appeared on the Boston Tea Party tapes and as there doesn't seem to be any film footage existing of those shows, I doubt that the video portion of that was from the Tea Party but it would be interesting to find out where it is from someday though if nothing else. however, much inferior choice on the part of the compiler of that release. Anyways, hope this clears up the "Oh well" situation.

John

Ahh, ok... like I said, I have the Early Years on VHS, and I know "Oh Well" is on there (have watched it many times!), and even though I havent purchased a DVD copy yet, I know it's on the cover as being included... so i was curious as to whether or not it really was.

Thanks for clearing it up, John!

Talking Albatross/Oh Well

IMO putting Albatross on a video is like watching paint dry. Oh Well would be more visually AND aurally interesting.

Songbird from Japan...
I know I'll be promptly shot down with the following little beef but...do you we really need 4 from Rosebud? Wouldn't another Midnight Special serve as well or perhaps (more logical) give the Tango live show a little representation?

Really there's not a whole lot of difference between the two. Maybe Ken COULD squeeze all the songs from both options onto the DVD. I like that idea!

I do agree that "Oh Well" should be included. It's a classic and would be a great way to start the DVD.

I'd have to go with the Japan clip of "Songbird"...just please get that song on there!!

Wasn't there some concern from Ken Caillat about getting the footage from the Mirage Concert since HBO owned the rights to it?
That could shake up the lineup a little bit since both options have at least three songs from it.
