Hell, I get told all the frikking time I should be a comedian mainly for my own twisted vocabulary...But I wont be censored thus no comedy career in my future. Anyways, I still think SYW holds up rather well after 2 years...Hell, It just jumped into my JVC system and is crankin' away. Hopefully the next FM release will be while I am still in my 30's ("Sure...And 'ifs' and 'buts' were candies & nuts I would have one helluva party" )Brian "The black Ledge???!!!...Oh, is that like those black ops & black government helicopters that are supposed to exist too, ya know like Hangar 18 & Area 51 ???" j.

It is really strange to go back and see threads from two years ago. Boy have my opinions changed! I really can't believe I said that The Second Time was a masterpiece. Just a little disclaimer if you ever read my posts- I over exagerate a lot!

Ok...I'll just copy Diss here... What's the World Coming To- It's a nice song, I love Stevie's harmony...but it's just as bland as ever. Murrow- This is my favorite song on the album. It was a standout when I first bought it, too. Illume- I must be in the minority, because I love this song. Thrown Down- It's ok. I don't really care for it. Miranda- Fun song to sing along with. Harmonies are great. Red Rover- Good song, but I never listen to it. (?) Say You Will- Catchy as hell chorus. Don't listen to this much though. Peacekeeper- BLEGH. Come- Worst song on here. Smile At You- It's grown on me...but I cannot listen to it anymore without pining for the Angry demo. Running Through the Garden- Fun, but also makes me miss the demo. Silver Girl- I've always liked this song. Steal Your Heart Away- Blahhhhh Bleed To Love Her- Blahhhh Everybody Finds Out- A little too disco for me. Destiny Rules- I can't stand this song AT ALL. Say Goodbye- I love this. Goodbye Baby- And this.

I'm still pretty pleased with Say You Will overall. Of course I do think it could have been better, "What's The World Coming To" would've probably been cooler as an acoustic version (the snippet of it in the special edition is TOO good), "Down On Rodeo" should have replaced "Steal Your Heart Away", "Peacekeeper" should have made room for "Twist Of Fate" and "Not Make Believe" would've done fine in the place of "Silver Girl". But those are about the only complaints I have.
History will probably view Say You Will as an album made by four has-beens at the tail end of their careers, but we don't have to care about such opinions, do we? ![]()

I love the album, it made me a fan of FM and I still dig it. Can't say my opinions about the songs are changed much, except for Murrow who had a kryptonite effect on me initially, but now I appreciate it more. My favourites are still Destiny Rules, Thrown Down, Say Goodbye, Everybody Finds Out, Goodbye Baby, Miranda, Illume, Smile at You and those I don't care for are Come and Silver Girl (even if I really like the bridge).
Great work of art, brilliantly uncompromising in its differencies, and full of intriguing paths to follow. Romy

SYW is a good album but by no means a masterpiece. However I think most of us would agree that SYW is th ebst work of all new material that they have done since Tango.
My Fav's are SYW, WTWCT,PK,GB Come bores me because of the way Lindsey distotrs his voice and I just find it too loud. Thrown Down was better as the deom version. Silver Girl is bland bland bland. EFO is ok. Overall a solid effort. matt ![]() |

I love Say You Will. I agree with everyone who said it's their best and most interesting work since "Tusk." Not that that's saying much... "Mirage" and "Tango in the Night" are both pretty bland affairs overall despite a few good singles, and we won't even get into "Behind the Mask and "Time."
![]() Stevie's work, in particular, is stellar. I love all her songs. Mick's right in the Destiny Rules doc when he says they're her best group of songs since the 1970s. I still say "Illume" is amazing, aside from the vandalism that Lindsey Buckingham committed in adding those heinous computer voices. I think it's one of her most adventurous and unusual songs. "Say You Will" is fun but suffers from a bad vocal and colorless production. Uh, the kids' voices? Maybe even worse than the computers. Compared with Stevie's songs, Lindsey's to me seem mostly flavorless. He's never been as distinctive a songwriter, but to my ears only "Red Rover" and "Miranda" truly jump out of the speakers. "Bleed to Love Her" was great on The Dance but I HATE it here. Those echo-y drums ruin it. "Come," meanwhile, is the album's one utter travesty. |
