No problem. With all this promotion, I think we need to get on Suze's payroll!

I haven't gotten past chapter one of the book because I'm caught up in All Souls which is really interesting.

Gotta hit it, 'night all!

Soooooooo...

I was given Suze's "FICO Kit" for my birthday. It comes with three FICO scores, three credit bureau reports, a lifetime discount of 15% on the FICO scores after the three, and a bunch of different software. I was going to do it today, but I'm too lazy to get all the paperwork out to do it.

I've gotta get my Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare form witnessed and notarized and then I am on to FICO.

So your kit comes with "gift certificates" to get your scores one time from each credit bureau? And it's the day after your birthday, be lazy dammit!

I'm still reading All Souls. Right now I'm at the part where Southie has to go through forced bussing. What an absolute nightmare mess that was.

That's one of my favorite books. You should read The Handmaid's Tale immediately after you finish 1984. I read them one after the other and it's incredibly chilling.

Oh. I despise her politics, but I really like her books. My favorite is Atlas Shrugged, you would probably enjoy that.

Yay! I got my new "People of the (Raven)" book! I had to get the hardback, cause the paperback comes out in August, and I couldn't wait. Anyways, this one is cool, because part of the fictional story is based on the "Kennewick Man" discovered on the NW coast. It is a 9000 year old Caucasoid skull they found, which is monumental cause they didn't know about white people in the area at that time. Unfortunately, as the forward told me, there was much opposition to it being studied by Native American religious fundamentalist (gosh, religious fundamentalists are never good, are they? ) and they had to rebury it and covered it with tons of dirt, Cause of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. Anyway, this one should be great...Again, set about 9000 years ago in the pacific NW.... Aren't you all just drooling at the prospect of archeological fiction???

I really liked Gone with the Wind too. My Mom has her Nana's copy (the fabulous Celine) and that's the copy I read, that was kind of neat because we just do not have a lot of things passed down.

I finished reading All Souls and it was an excellent book. It's kind of strange reading about the changes that were made to South Boston when that's all I've ever known. Apparently the waterfront properties were NOT desirable in the 70s due to polution and rats so they put the projects there. Now that's where all the prime real estate is, offices, expensive gyms, and luxury apartments. A lot of people in Southie are becoming homeless because they can no longer afford to live where they grew up.

That is interesting! Same thing happening in SF and Oakland, of course. It's called "gentrifying". Apparently, in SF, a lot of it is gay couples totally moving into previously bad neighborhoods and making everything all nice and stuff, and making the prices rise. It sucks, in a way, but on the other hand...do you want nice people who don't do drugs, crime, etc. to live in your neighborhood, or do you want people like that to live there? The bad part, of course, is when nice poor people can't afford to live anywhere. It's quite the issue, really.
Oh, and GWTW is a fantabulous book, I read it in highschool...

Did you guys read Scarlett, it's actually pretty good, not quite the same as the origional but, very good. I ended up reading it after listening to my Mom tell me how faboulas it was, she read it when she was about my age. Now if only I could find my own Rhett out where I am

Right, gentrifying, he actually used that word, I had forgotten. My last boss bought a condo over there. He used to live in the South End which is gay and fabulous, and then he moved over there. Even he couldn't afford something in the SE. But I made the mistake of walking to his condo and there was a broken down bus in someone's yard and trash everywhere, everything was run down. Then you get to his side of the block and the facades of the buildings shape up and things begin to look nicer. Then you get to the waterfront where the gadgillionaires live.

The book talked about Whitey Bulger too, who is still on the run. It was interesting to see what someone from the neighborhood's perspective was on him. He is an Irish mobster, he was the Irish godfather, I suppose, of Southie. The author's brother worked for him as did many many others.

And the forced bussing, that ruined the neighborhood because all of the teens dropped out of school, they feared for their life if they went.
