my cousin beat me to the name 'lily'
but it's short for lillian. i always think of the cartoon 'rugrats' - lill-ee-innn...my nephew is stevie, my best friend's name is stephanie lynn and her daughter is bella. everyone claims that it's a coincidence, but by the time i get around to having kids, there won't be any 'stevie' names left. coincidentally, of course... |

Lily? Right up there near the top of my list. I've actually thought I could get away with Lily because my future hubby would likely never know of the connection to Stevie. I also like Julia and Jane. Annabelle Lee... Well, I like Annabelle. I don't think I'd ever use Rhiannon or Belladonna or anything too obvious. I'd feel like I was almost burdoning my kid with my obssession. But I will forever regret not naming my dog Gypsy. She would have been a perfect Gypsy. Dammit. ![]() |

My baby girl, due in early July, will be named Lily. Not primarily because of the Stevie reference, but it's an added benefit. (It was my great-grandmother's name). Now let's just hope the ultrasound technician was right about the gender--we worked so hard to come up with a name that we both love and seemed to fit. I'd hate to have to start over with a boy's name and ditch all those pink clothes.

I heard 'Rhiannon' on the radio when I was five years old, in late 1975, and I was just blown away. I turned to my Mom in our car, and told her that I was naming my future daughter Rhiannon...of course, I don't think she took me too serious, but I was very serious. I never forgot the song, the name, or Stevie...and fifteen years later, when my daughter was born, my husband and I named her Rhiannon.
Then almost seven years later, along came our second daughter...we named her after my Grandfather, but her middle name is Stephanie. My husband loves their names, and never had a problem with it, thank goodness. I will say that Rhiannon has a difficult time, sometimes, at school...believe it or not, many people haven't a clue who Stevie is, let alone the song 'Rhiannon,' and many a teacher and students have pronounced her name wrong over the years. Until Rhiannon corrects them, they call her 'Rhiana' and 'Briana' ~ everything except Rhiannon. I've even had to write the pronounciation down on paper, for one of her teachers, when she was in the 1st grade! You should see how many people can't spell it, as well! Rhiannon is so proud of her name, though...and once her friends find out about her name, and the story behind it, they think it's really cool. ![]() |

I don't think its right when parents give their children such names. Kids are very cruel and will find any reason at all to tease and belittle each other, so I think it would be best if parents avoided giving bullies more fodder for their cruelties.
Sara is a fine name to give a girl. It isn't bizarre and by itself does not scream 'Stevie Nicks' but something like Rhiannon or Bella Donna (which is also a drug) does. You want to name something as a tribute to a celebrity that you like? Get a pet. Just my opinion. On a similar note, Parents should be more considerate about how a child's first name relates to the family's last name. I went to school with two different girls (I didn't know them, but I knew of them only because of their names) who both had the first name Crystal. Their last names? Ship and Dragon. I kid you not. Another aquaintence of mine was nearly given the first name of Holly until her parents realized that their daughter would be Holly Wood. The best one, or depending on how you look at it - the worst, is a certain Nascar driver whose last name is Trickle and his first name is Richard, but of course he goes by Dick. |

I always wanted to change my name when I was little, even tho it's a regular name Christy...I think kids will always hate their name, or get picked on for whatever reason...my last name is Arehart (say air-heart) and I got "air-head" and "air-fart"...sometimes parents can't avoid these things...how about more "Mike"s and "John"s??? I certainly don't see enough of those.!!!
With a cool, individual name, people will remember you!
