Oh, I think they're amazing too. Kind of all went downhill after Mommie Dearest, though.

Well, I think it started with the Eyes of Laura Mars. But then she had a one-two punch with Barfly and The Handmaid's Tale (which I just saw recently) and I think those are among her best performances.

The Eyes of Laura Mars was insanely cool to me. Barfly was a gross revelation of debauched beauty.

I think Eyes of Laura Mars is quite entertaining and she was good (Tommy Lee Jones on the other hand...), but it hasn't aged well. I bought it when it came out on DVD and was a bit aghast at why she chose to do that movie after the masterpiece that is Network. She was just fab in Barfly.

Yeah, I think I was intrigued by the datedness. I usually am. Oh, heck, it was just Faye + some cheesy stuff that made me like it. Her cheekbones looked great in that movie.
But, compared to Network, it wasn't good, (der) but I can see how the story may have intrigued her. Maybe it had some "problems".
Barfly was really good, but i've only seen it once cause it was so "ugly".
I thought B&C was okay, but the bad actor that I think Warren Beatty is distracted me very much. I just didn't think they were a good match. He is too blank/non expressive for the way she played her role, and the fire she had.

I've never seen The Handmaid's Tale. How close is it to the book?

It reminded me of that Margaux Hemingway piece of **** Lipstick for some reason. I saw Laura Mars when I was a kid and loved it, but it just didn't have the same punch later on. I'm still surprised at how brutal the murder scenes are, though.

Babs was orignally attached to play Mars, but dropped out and just sang the theme song. I gotta say, though, Mars was better choice for her than Yentl. Christ.

I hated her in Bonnie and Clyde. Thought she was just boring as hell and hung off of every scene like a wet dish rag. I think Beatty had the charisma to pull off Clyde, especially in the scenes where he can't believe people want to kill him, but I usually can't stand him. I wish there was a copy of Kael's review online (I worship her...), but I've looked before and couldn't find it.

It's pretty faithful, but they took quite a few liberties. They changed the ending, made The Commander too nice and likable for most of the movie, cut out too much of his wifes role, and didn't keep consistent with how evil the Aunt's were. Dunaway was fab, as were Natasha Richardson and Elizabeth McGovern.
