Right, but not just meat. that's why i said Omnivores, but not Carnivores. If Carnivores, our teeth wouldn't have as many grindy ones in the back, and they'd be more like cats'. Carnivores eat solely meat, basically, except for the odd chewed pieces of grass to help digestion. And they're body chemistry is made to support an all meat diet, whereas ours is not - we would be severely malnourished if that was all we ate.

Well, I suppose it's based more on medical "assumption" than anything. Taking into consideration the type of wound (as it would relate to human pain) and the amount of time it would take to die from such a wound, I guess is how they've determined it's more painful and causes more suffering.

It's sort of like boiling a lobster, I suppose... in that there's no way of knowing exactly how much it hurts the lobster, but you can be sure that it does.

I've recently read info that some blood types need hardly any meat, are adapted to largely a non meat, grain/fruit/veggie/nut diet. Meat in large quantities is detrimental to the efficient running of their system.

Hey now, I'm a girl and used to play with squirmy things. I collected daddy long legs, beetles, worms, snails, etc. And sooner or later (most) girls get to play with those same "squirmy things" that bigger boys play with, they just belong to the boys!

well, I think the animal would die more quickly with a gunshot wound, and it's likely to be a more accurate shot, that's why people would say it is less painful. Aren't you supposed to break the animal's neck if it isn't dead after you shoot it?

It depends on what you shoot, graphic details aside - a larger animal should be shot again if the first shot did not kill it.

yeah, i guess. either way, if it is still alive, and suffering, something should be done!

Actually, in an ideal situation, animals should be slaughtered by being gassed. It's painless and rather quick. Why it isn't more widespread is beyond my comprehension.

Maybe he'll hit a Murdoch sometime.

thank goodness you are in the vehicle

I agree, though, that a gunshot is probably the most effective way to kill a large animal. A chicken or other bird is a little different and perhaps the chopping block is the most humane. They can also pretty much all be gassed - but that is a litle risky as gas is toxic - though I am sure it has been improved, etc.

the pesky Kangaroo......I think its the "casualness" that you describe so succinctly that is so hard to deal with...but, that is the mindset of stockranchers (or graziers in your case). Kangaroos dont have any natural predatory enemies over there do they? Actually, aside from the Dingo, is there any? Dingos are shot as well are they not?

The only thing i don't think makes it as fair to kill an animal with a gun, theoretically, is the fact that you can shoot it from much farther away, and well, there's just no chance it could escape. ie, not as "fair of a fight". You don't have to use your wits and tracking skill as much to sneak up on it for just the right shot. But that point becomes a little moot with the fact that we do have guns, and if we are going to hunt animals, it makes it faster/less painful.
