Timothy 3:14,15; 2:11-15 — Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

Shall we talk further on how the bible states that woman should always be lowly to men? How they should not work outside of the house, nor even so much as teach Sunday School?

How closely do you follow those particular passages of the bible, personally? Does the Biblical ideal of women being submissive to men seem terribly antiquated and sexist to you? Or are you completely comfortable with it, "because it's what the bible says"?
Not to mention allowing polygamy and allowing children to marry.

Women are supposed to submit to their husband...but that doesen't mean that they are SLAVES and can't have their own life opinion or view! and btw the man has to submit to someone too (GOD!)

well, that means you are taking some parts of the bible literally, and others you're just making up the meaning yourself. Is everything true, or not?

Go ahead and submit then when you get married. I will not. I will "love, honor, and cherish" though.

But that's not exactly the whole story. According to the bible, women are not merely to submit to their husbands, but they are also not to dress immodestly, nor are they to work outside of the house, nor are they to be teachers, or church leaders, etc.

By the way, Leviticus condones the possession of slaves, male or female. So long as they're purchased from neighboring nations.

I'm tellin' ya!

I bet my very devoted Italian-Catholic mother would have a good laugh, too, if someone suggested she should be submissive to my father.
That Submissive Woman stuff hasn't flown since the first few decades of the 1900s!

Well you also have to read scripture in reference to the time it was written. It has meanings and application for today...but also it was written specifically for peoples of the times...things do change and doctorine does develope over time...

but common foundations of truth such as...man shall not lie with man...isn't something you can change...you can't say "well this only applied to them back then because...."

Again, then you are picking and choosing what is true from the bible. How can you justify that? man shouldn't lie with man isn't in keeping with our times either. You can't just pick and choose what parts of the bible are the truth.

But I don't understand why we get to pick and choose.
If it's stated in the bible, should it not be followed?

How is it decided what's appropriate to follow, and what can be dismissed because of the era in which it was written?

Is it not possible that the views of that time influenced the human males who wrote the bible, to apparently comment as unfavorably about homosexuality as they did in regards to women's roles in society?

How, exactly, is it determined what is a "common foundation of truth," and what's merely an archaic viewpoint made by men whose worlds were very small in scope?

Again, I do not see a single word in the Ten Commandments regarding homosexuality. I would think that God's Commandments should be the ultimate foundations of truth. Everything else stated in the bible by Paul, Matthew, etc., etc., is merely an interpretation or an opinion.
