I like At Last, even if she didn't do it any justice whatsoever, but I cry when I hear Sunday Kind of Love. Please stop doing Etta, Stevie. I saw Etta do SKOL and At Last at a free concert in Hartford two years ago and she's still magnificent. That voice is golden.
I was front row at one of her shows a while back. One of her family members that was touring with her came out and sat in the seat next to me and was being flirty. When Etta saw this, she started laughing her ass off. She is one salty old broad and such a treat to see perform. She looks great. Her autobiography is fab. I love her!

I thought "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" (which she didn't write either, BTW) as the opening number on the TISL tour was kind of lame.
I agree. Outside the Rain is fab, no matter how many times it's played. SDMHA sounded awful on the last tour, just putrid. I much preferred it on the Enchanted tour before she dropped it for no reason.

I never liked SDMHA live for some reason.....I never liked the song in general, though, so.......

She sounds good and I find it enjoyable, but there's nothing in her voice, she sounds forced and fake when she sings it. Too rehearsed and empty for me.

She is one tough broad. Have you heard her last CD, "Live At the House of Blues"? She sounds sexy as all get out on that CD and rips the roof off the joint. She's still got it after all these years.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of it either, but anything was better than the TISL rendition. It was pretty painful. Especially after hearing TISL over the speakers and expecting her to come out in a blaze of glory. Instead, we got a slowed-down rocker with no bite to it at all.

Ugh...Why didn't she just do TISL herself instead of having it play on speakers?

Beats me. That's a big mystery. I would have loved it. There's always a way to pull off a song live, it just takes some creativity and a good ear.

Etta James is incredible, she could sing the phone directory and I would be there enthralled. I even like her voice more now, it has a deepness that gets me everytime. After having heard My Funny Valentine sung by her, it's very difficult to listen to any other version.

Back to the topic, my favourite live songs not by Stevie (more or less all already mentioned): At Last, Talk To Me, Insider, Solitary Man, Strong Enough.

It sounded great and fast at my show And OTR was like a big debbie downer, to me, after SDMHA...

I've yet to hear a great or fast version of Stop Draggin' from any TISL show, so consider yourself lucky. It was just putrid, IMO. I was lucky when it came to Outside the Rain, she dropped it right after my two shows. I would have been incredibly pissed if I didn't get to hear it.

I'll have to check it out. I have a bunch of her stuff. Some of the stuff she recorded at Muscle Shoals is among her best, IMO.

I agree with this totally!

It is hard for me to not expect it to be as powerful as it was "back in the day", and I still do not like it when Waddy sings Tom's parts.
