Disappointment ?

I believe it was all about trying to quantify how many octaves it was. It was me balking at the statement about how high her range was - and that it wasn't nearly three octaves.

I'm just reminding you that she's always had a limited range, and a voice that is not exactly the easiest to love. That much hasn't changed.
Oh, yeah, Thanks ! I forgot.

At any rate, it really wasn't my intention to get into yet another debate about this with you. Guess I really don't wear the Queeny Sarcasm type of humour well!

See, I thought so!

Maybe it's me and YOU who need to crawl under that sweater table, Sparkelah!
Of course, then I have visions of the table flying across the room after an off-handed comment sets the two of us off.

Oh, I see. So you had to jump in and make sure I didn't deflile THE GODDESS again by nailing down the exact notes she was singing ?

Debate ? Oh lordy. You can't debate what notes someone is singing. I just hadn't gotten around to pulling out the guitar and picking them out. But I know, I know, just mentioning the "range" is character assassination. I saw you on the white horse riding in out of the corner of my eye when I first posted on this thread. I could almost feel the reprimanding swat of the ruler on my knuckles.

OK, if I can just bring the thread momentarily back to the original topic...
Thanks for everyone's help with this. I think I've tracked down what I'm looking for.

And Tower, thanks for posting that information about Stevie's record highs and lows. I never would have guessed her highest note was on SOTM... I would have guessed maybe Dreams ("it's only RIII-ight....")

Also, this brings up something I've been wondering for a while. In live performances at least since the early 1980s, Stevie hasn't even tried to hit the high note in the "Rhiannon" chorus ("Once in a MILLL-ion years..."). But it's not even that high, is it? I wonder if the difficulty comes more from poor vocal technique...

Well, good to know that you have me all figured out there, Sparky! Seeing as how I'm always going on and on about how Stevie is such a Goddess and doesn't have any flaws whatsoever. The Virgin Stevie and all.
That's absolutely my fandom to a tee.

I was over here trying to lighten things back up a little... since I had never meant for them to get serious in the first place... and you're making them bitchier and bitchier.

C'est la Vie.

It can't be that hard to nail the exact notes she can sing these days, there are only, what, a dozen of them since our last count last night?

I must say that I am amused and quite amazed by the statements made in this thread about Stevie singing with three octaves nowadays. That is beyond absurd. Cyndi Lauper has a four octave range, folks, and Stevie isn't even close to that. Nor has she ever been.

That statement made me laugh with delight for some reason.

Fandom. I love that word. Says so much with six tiny letters. It's a word that keeps on giving.

The technical question about notes hit and vocal range that was so succintly and eloquently answered by The Tower had gotten so vicious and bitchy, it really did need a referee and some levity. Man, it was a den of snakes in here. The distractions and undercutting and passive aggressiveness...we were so all over the place with it we couldn't even get to the subject of key and range.
And then I had to reach my contrary arm through your phone line and drag you into it. I'm so bad.

Seemed an appropriate word to use among contemporaries who while away their days posting on a fan site.
Doesn't seem to require any stretch of the imagination whatsoever, to realize that those who are not in possession of a certain level of fanaticism wouldn't care to be bothered hanging 'round these parts.
So I see no reason to deny it, since none of us can claim, with even the tiniest ounce of believability, that we're not guilty of having our own "fandom."

I made one comment that was meant to get a laugh... it wasn't meant to be anything more. Later, Diss and The Tower discussed (lightheartedly) my apparent status as the "Super Defender of Stevie Nicks," so I just thought I'd explain my line of thinking. Which was more of a general explanation than one directed at anything specific in this particular thread. Things seemed to slide down a slipperly slope from there.

You and I seemed to start out around here on the right foot... we could talk, discuss and debate with no problems. Even PMd a couple of times, if I recall correctly.
These days everything seems to turn into something antagonistic. I won't act like I'm blameless, because... to throw out a cliché here... it takes two to tango.
I tried to bring things back around to levity in this thread, but I failed.
Now I'm done.

I was not mean in that and I did not think Tower was either I was just stating what I heard and how I play those - he pretty much did the same.

Sorry, if I came across that way
