Christmas has been cancelled, or at least postponed... 22 inches at my aunt's house. She called today, and said they thought the roads were too bad for most to make it, so Christmas is off.
You want snow? You can have every damned flake of it!
Not trying to bum anyone out, but snow sucks! I've got the proof right here.

Sorry dude, that really sucks. I really don't mind snow at all UNTIL it starts to affect my life - mainly bad driving, or things being cancelled. I hope you find a way to have a nice holiday anyway. Have a drink & keep warm!

Totally OT - 1000 posts - Merry Christmas to me!

THANK YOU

to everyone who prayed that I'd have a White Christmas. It worked! Well, sorta. We've had snow flurries here on and off all day, and it's finally cold enough to stick. So, at the very least we'll have a White Christmas Eve. Now, I'll be awake all night waiting to see if we can go

SLEDDING!!!

FYI -- I'm about 2 miles north of Galveston, 30 miles south of Houston, right on the Texas coast. In the pics I've attached, you can see that this really is the tropics. Nothing like tropical foliage covered in pure white icy goodness!

OK -- now I'm off to change into some dry socks, and I'm heading back outside!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAZE EVERYONE!!!

- Chuck "misses snow so bad" L.

I'm still crossing my fingers but I don't think we're going to get any of the white stuff. I see green on the radar over Lake Charles and Lafayette and it's been below freezing all day, so maybe there's a chance...

We didn't drain the pool this year and to keep the sand filter from freezing we run it when it gets below freezing -- it's been running for over two days straight now. I just hope it doesn't stop working. Anybody wanna go swimming?

My pool's winter cover is held in place with sandbags. Yesterday, the weight of all this 18" of snow we got, pulled the cover in, along with 12-14 60lb sandbags, in the deep end, of course. I have NO idea what to do.........I guess I'll just have to wait until late spring to fish it all out. I can think of no other way to get them out, other than waiting til it's almost warm enough to start swimming, get in and freeze my ass off, and carry them to the shallow end.
It's -7 right now, with 18" on the ground....it's a winter wonderland.

Sure, as long as we skinny-dip! We can start the Southern Polar Bears Club, and show all those folks up north who jump in the lake on New Year's Day (?) how it's really done!!!

All the weather forecasters in Houston are projecting the precipitation to move right over the top of us, then move out into the Gulf. But what the hell do they really know, anyway? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Congrats on your snow. Why do you miss it? Are you from a snowy place, but then moved to Texas?

Oh my goodness, I feel for you. Is it an inground pool? Having to move a dozen 60 lb sandbags to the shallow end would be enough to make me drain it, haul them out, and refill it... if it's inground I don't think it would be that hard, but with an above ground there's a chance the walls could collapse (that happened to us last year when we put a new liner in -- not a good time). Normally we drain the water down to just below the skimmer and then we unhook the plumbing and bring the pump and the sand filter inside so they don't freeze and crack, but in the past few years we've just kept it running when it's cold. I hope your plumbing's okay with the kind of temperatures you guys are having...

Have at it! I stuck my hand in the skimmer the other day and that water is like ICE. I've got six dozen cookies and an apple pie when you guys are done...

For the past week or so they've been saying this cold air from the Gulf is going to come up into southern LA and it might come up as far as the middle of the state, where I am, so here's hoping...

Yeah, it's an inground. I lower the water down past the return jets, which is supposed to keep any damage from freezing to the walls. But, it's now -11 , and, with no cover on there, well, my finger's are certainly crossed.
I think the plumbing should be okay. I blow out all the lines, and fill them with RV antifreeze. Now, I'm starting to worry more....
Now WHY couldn't all my snow have gone to TX?

Aw.. Homer, I feel really bad for you all down there. I know you were nailed. It's all the news keeps talking about. Where does your aunt live? How many inches did you get? I think I'm at 9 inches right now. And DAMN is it cold or what???

Good luck with the pool...

My aunt lives east of Columbus, out towards Greensburg. She said they had drifts 4-5 feet high.
I got somewhere between 16-18 inches. I drive 4wd, and still couldn't get out of my driveway yesterday, thanks to the snowplows clearing the road into my driveway . It was so high that it was lifting my front tires off the driveway, so I was stuck until I shoveled a 3 foot wall down.
And, it's now -17 here.
Let's hope the rest of the winter isn't this bad.
Not trying to be a downer on Xmas, but this snowstorm has sucked! in my little corner of the world.

Here in the UK it's pretty thick over with snow... This morning it was sunny dry and really pleasant.. The snow hit this afternoon and right now at 19:40pm it's coming down heavy... Fat snow I think it's called!

Gonna be fun getting to work tomorrow!!

It looks really nice white over with the Christmas lights from the houses.... I had dinner at my mother's home this afternoon and her neighbours have a huge inflatable Homer Simpson and enough lights to power a small town!!

Just seen some kids having snowball fights outside bare chested! Glad I'm nice and warm inside..

I grew up in east Tennessee, and we'd get snow every winter. Not too much -- just enough to enjoy it without getting sick of it. Maybe 7-10 really good "snow days", and then lots of flurries and icicles the rest of the time.

When I woke up Christmas morn, we ended up with 3-4 inches on the ground, the first time that's happened in the Houston area since 1895. I've never seen so many snowmen in my life (even in Tennessee). Every house we passed on the way to my family gathering at my brother's house had a snowman, and kids either building another one, or pelting each other with snowballs.

Thanks again, Ledgies for helping me have a White Christmas! Here are some more pics:
