The moment you knew there was a band called Fleetwood Mac

What is your earliest memory about Fleetwood Mac? When did you learned there was this great band? Was it a song on the radio? a video?

Mine is when my brother bought the "You make loving fun" single, with Gold Dust woman on side B. I already knew that song but didn't know who played it until my. This 45 vynil single maybe still exists at my parents home. I remember the old Warner Bros label, and the description under the title: from the LP "Rumours"" . I remember it sounded cool that title, Rumours. No idea the phenomenom it would be later

My earliest memory probably was seeing the Little Lies video on VH1. It seemed like they showed the video all the time and I remember thinking, "Wait a minute. Are there two blond haired women in that video?" Not very many bands have two women.

I first heard of them in '97 when I heard something on TV about a reunion. At the time, I didn't even care. It wasn't until about this time last year that I got the "Green Album" and I then realized how great they are.

I've always know about the band. My parents played them all the time. Mom even put headphones on her belly when she was pregnant with me and played Rumours and Tusk.

I guess the first real memory I can remember was watching MTV and seeing the Seven Wonders video. I never was into watching cartoons....MTV was my choice. I guess everything before that is a blur.

I was about 6, in the back of my parents' Sportabout car, and I heard Rhiannon, and I remember my dad singing along to it (he always sings along to stuff on the radio, to this day... ) I remember liking the chorus a lot. But I don't think I knew who they were..... but I do remember 2 yrs later in 1977 when GYOW was all over the radio, and I asked my dad to turn it up. And after that incredible ending I remember the dj saying 'That was Fleetwood Mac' and my dad repeating enthusiastically 'Fleetwood Mac!' and I thought that was a really cool name for a group.

Then of course several years went by until I was struck by the advent of MTV in 1982, and you could see the faces of those people that made the music!!!! The first time I saw Hold Me I nearly passed out, I was like "This band has guys AND girls in it? How cool is that?! And how beautiful is that guy w/ the white hat?!" That was when the true obsession began, I suppose, at age 11-12.

One more thing, I was going through some old photo albums w/ my daughter last night and I found the funniest picture of me in Jr High, wearing my beloved FMac grey t-shirt. I have to scan it and post it, although the flip hair-do and the big glasses are rather embarrassing....

I know I heard their songs on classic rock radio, which my parents played all the time... But the first time I was actually aware of Fleetwood Mac was when my mom came home with the green album....I guess I was about 8. Been a fan ever since.

I knew of Stevie Nicks in May 2001. I was getting ready for school one morning and heard this voice. Every Day was on Vh1. I dropped in front of the TV and was in awe. After school, I did some research, went to Amazon, played a few songs from GH. I realized that I knew these songs...SYLM, Gypsy, Little Lies, Dreams, etc. I remember being 3 or 4, dancing around, and singing along to them.

It was number 1 when I was a teen and it was playing on the radio ALL the time--AM radio, no less (FM--the radio frequency--was for old fogies back in the day--it played muzak). I thought the song was completely creepy but I got used to hearing it all the time and when I heard it again during the Dance--I immediately recalled the smell of Coppertone suntan lotion;-) And, the funny thing is, I can see myself in these white short-shorts and a bright green halter walking to the water. Very odd memory.
I also remember seeing them on the Midnight Special (I used to watch Friday nights with my grandma--of all folks--she was a very cool lady). I think that was where I got my impression that Stevie never smiled much--because I remember when I saw the Dance and saw her smile--I was thinking "with a smile like that, why would she ever have her serious face on!"
And I also remember being somewhat surprised to find they sang GYOW and a song of Christines (can't remember which)--and thinking--this can't all be from FM--they all sound so different.

I'm only 16, so I haven't really been a fan for all that long... My mom has always been a fan of Fleetwood Mac though, so I pretty much grew up with it. I was in the car one day and heard Edge of Seventeen on the radio and I really wanted to know who it was by...My mom said she didn't really know and said Fleetwood Mac or something. I went home and took The Dance CD and listened to every song trying to find EO17. Well, obviously I didn't find it. But I fell in love with some of the songs on The Dance. I couldn't stop listening to it. Then the next day, my dad took me out and I got Timespace so I could listen to Edge of Seventeen, and fell in love with Stevie's songs too!

I'd heard their songs not realizing who they were, and heard the name "Fleetwood Mac" without connecting it to any of of those songs. It wasn't until I bought the Dance in 1997 for "Silver Springs" that I realized all sorts of songs that I loved were by this group, and that the group even had as a member Stevie Nicks who I knew from the song "Talk to Me." And I've loved them ever since!

Yep, Brian and Lis's stories parallel mine.
I remember riding on a 1000 mile trip, to visit family, when Rhiannon was at it's peak. I loved it. As a matter of fact, we went and bought the 45, and gave it to my older cousin who lived there.........and never thought any more about FM(hey, I was little). As fate would have it, about three years later, my cousin was having great difficulty getting along with her step-father, so she moved to IN to finish high school living with us. Well, along came her collection of 8 tracks . Well, Rumours was one of them...I became OBSESSED! I spent hours on end in my bedroom, playing every vocal line on trumpet(bet Mom loved that!) I eventually pulled a guitar from the closet, that I'd given up on learning a couple years earlier, and bought the Rumours chord book, and taught myself to play. Obsessed doesn't begin to describe how much I loved FM. Three 8 tracks, 2 cassettes, an album(all completely WORN OUT), and finally a CD, before I was satiated. Rumours literally changed my life, completely.....

btw, the Rhiannon 45 came back to me. I still have it.

My earliest memory is hearing Say You Love Me on the radio as a child, but not knowing that it was Fleetwood Mac. I also heard songs like Dreams, GYOW, and Don't Stop without connecting them with the band. I remember going through some of my dad's tapes and finding either a Rumours or White Album tape...I'm not sure not. When I really discovered them conciously was in either late 2002 or early 2003 when I was looking for a song with my name in it ------------------> Sara!

So here we are 2 years later and I have 600 and some posts

Same here - for YEARS! After I saw The Dance, I was hooked - I remember thinking "hey, I know that song...that one too...OMG, that's THEIR song?" Hubby still makes fun of me to this day - "you didn't even know who they WERE a few years ago, you know!" Yeah, I know...

My very earliest memory of Stevie was watching the Stand Back vid on MTV. Thank God my babysitter turned us onto this "cool new cable music channel" (which even though we'd had cable for a couple of years, me & my bro had no clue about! Of course, I was only 8! I had no clue she was in Mac, though.

Earliest clear Mac memory? 1987. I distinctly remember hearing Little Lies repeatedly, it was everywhere! I recall sitting in my friend Renee's bedroom listening to her crappy little radio every day & that tune would come on every time. I remember the album cover (I think her sister had the cassette, or maybe a poster of it.) I also remember that I preferred Seven Wonders over LL, BL or Everywhere.

I was with my Grandparents for Christmas 1997 and they were watching The Dance on tv. I remember loving Christine and thought she was really underrated. "Everywhere" was the first Fleetwood Mac song I fell in love with. (The Dance version). I also remember thinking that Stevie Nicks looked drunk how she was swaying around and making all those hand motions during songs like Dreams. I guess I didn't realize that she was hamming up all those witchy gestures! I also remember not thinking Stevie's voice was too special and thinking Christine had the most unique, amazing voice of all time. Now, I am obviously much more of a Stevie fan. I never disliked Stevie- I just didn't connect with her until I was a tad older. Once I got TISL I was hooked. The rest, as they say, is history!
