I forgot to mention this a few weeks ago but Bette was on Good Day Live and Arthel (Taku's wife) interviewed her. They spoke briefly about Taku and showed his picture and also mentioned Fleetwood Mac and Stevie. I was on the phone but everyone at work was like, "SHE HAS YOUR STEVIE NECKLACE ON!" It looks like Stevie gave her a moon necklace so I'd say yes, they're friends

I'd like to see Stevie's take of Otto Titsling!

Yes, they are definitely friends. I was at the "Kiss My Brass" show at America West Arena last night and I saw Stevie. Bette gave her a big ups, and she said how much she loves Stevie. Bette always gives 110% but last night she went the extra 200% because Stevie was in da house. No doubt about it. It was the best show I've ever seen. Sorry, Stevie.

Most good movies usually never make any money, you're right. If only good movies were hits, **** like "The Fast and the Furious" and "Bruce Almighty" wouldn't be hits and movies like "Wendigo" and "Real Women Have Curves" would be blockbusters.

I so can't picture Stevie at a Bette concert. She must have blushed at the filthy jokes.

What were your favorite songs from last night? The Clooney ones are spectacular. But I'm partial to I Think It's Going To Rain Today...glad she pulled out Midnight In Memphis again.

I didn't know that, thanks for the info!

I still would like to see them performing together (maybe to a certain benefit show?), even more now knowing they're friends. It could be fun!

Anyway, Bette Midler should receive much more credit also as actress. She was perfect in "The Rose" (Sally Field was great in Norma Rae, but that Oscar was hers)and she is probably my favorite living comedian: in Scenes from the Mall she even overshadowed Woody Allen.

I'm not a fan of The Saint at all , but last year Val Kilmer really surprised me with his performance in Wonderland. He's becoming a much more interesting and nuanced actor, IMO.

Sally Field didn't deserve that Oscar, plain and simple; Bette did. She should have won the damned thing just for the scene in the phone booth alone. But what made the performance even more impressive was the fact that it was her first role EVER. She blew everyone away. And those concert scenes, my word, that is how a rock concert should be captured on film. I thought she was just as good in For the Boys, she was robbed again.

Not a lot of people like Scenes From A Mall, I'm surprised that you do. There are so many scenes in that one that have me on the floor that I coudn't begin to count them. I think it's one of the more original comedies ever made.

And I simply can't watch those 80s comedies of hers and not laugh, they were all great. Ruthless People still makes me laugh HYSTERICALLY after almost twenty years. Have you ever seen Divine Madness? That one epitomizes Bette. She had pneumonia during filming, yet she still put every other performer to shame.

I could go on and on, I'm a big fan.

I thought Wonderland was all about Lisa Kudrow. To me, Kilmer seemed very conscious of what he was doing, nothing seemed real. Too rehearsed, IMO.

Did you see it on DVD? I couldn't believe that they put the actual police video of the crime scene on there. What sick schmuck would actually watch it? I started watching the documentary that came with it on the actual Holmes, but it was too much of a whitewash for me.

.
I liked her a lot in For The Boys but James Caan should have been kicked out of the movie. I can't say I would have preferred Bette instead of Jodie Foster, but it was great to see her at the Oscar night seated just behind Anthony Hopkins. I knew it was a good sign! .

Why many people don't like it? I think it's hilarious, who doesn't want to knock out a mime, once in a while ? And I loved that during one of the couple's crisis they go to see Salaam Bombay!, it was a very nice and original touch.

Most people I've spoken to think it's stiff, boring, and just plain dull. Obviously, I don't hold that opinion. It's the movie that actually made Pauline Kael retire. She once said that after years of seeing and reviewing films, she saw Scenes From A Mall and finally just got fed up with seeing good actors (she was a big Bette fan, but hated Allen after Stardust Memories) star in bad movies. She said that there was nothing new she could add in her reviews, that it all became repetitive. So, she threw in the towel. The movie is an acquired taste, especially if you don't like Mazursky's brand of humour, or Allen's...or Bette's.

Lisa Kudrow is a truly gifted actress, IMO, and she's another one stolen of an Oscar for her performance in The Opposite Of Sex. Val Kilmer is always very conscious but in Wonderland, with such a wasted character, that type of control was useful, IMO.

I haven't seen the DVD, and now I'm not planning to.

The Opposite of Sex is hysterical.

"Vagina, vagina, vagina!! Doesn't that word do anything for you?"
"I don't think it does anything for anyone, it's too clinical."

Urrah for Scenes From The Mall, if it caused Pauline Kael's retirement . She had the sadistic pleasure to trash a lot of movies I loved.

I loved Kael, regardless if I agreed with her in her reviews.

No one could ever match her reviews and no one, in my opinion, ever will. She was brilliant. Some of the things she wrote were so vicious but so witty and true.
