Oy, that movie gives me chills. And just think, it was a true story.

Well, Marilyn Manson is playing the Queen of Hearts in the upcoming "Living in Neon Dreams" -- an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland.

I'm not a huge fan, but he is a very good writer when he's in the mood IMO. Besides The Shining I liked a lot Different Seasons and Dolores Claiborne.

I've heard about it, and I'm looking forward to the film.

I'd also like to take this time (as I occasionally do) to plug Dahl's short stories. Most of them he wrote before he ever thought of writing for children. They're wonderfully clever, dark, and strange! Roald Dahl is one of my favorite writers ever!

I'm looking forward to the remake, although I have recently come to really appreciate Gene Wilder's performance. Although not quite the Wonka of the book, I think it's a really great characterization on it's own merit.

No, I actually haven't read a whole lot of King. But something else I've read kinda in that same vein (horror writer writing for kids) you can try is Clive Barker's Thief of Always. A fun little tale about a kid who finds a new friend who isn't exactly what he seems to be!

Traumnovelle is quite a fascinating read. I have a book that has the script for Eyes Wide Shut and Traumnovelle together and I must say that it's weird reading both of them together.

Eyes Wide Shut is great, though, I don't understand the hatred people have for it.

LOVE The Thief of Always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My grandmother bought it for me years and years ago and it's always been a favorite of mine. Every year, there are grumblings and rumours that it'll be turned into a movie but it never happens. The illustrations in that book are striking.

Dean Koontz wrote a childrens book, too, about toys that come to life. I can't remember the title off-hand, but I have it upstairs in my bedroom and it's marvelous.

And creepier!

I think Johnny Depp is a great choice though. I kind of winced when I heard that the film is going to be remade. The original is such a classic and Gene Wilder was really exceptional in the Willy Wonka role but I'll give Depp a chance, he's a great actor and I know he can pull it off.

I don't know that people are remembering how dark the original film really was-- go back and take a look, it's really quite creepy in places, especially the oompa loompas! They really freaked me out.
