It wasn't Lindsey's quote; It was something some writers said. When Lindsey was asked to comment on it some time later, he said he thought it was actually unfair to the band, but funny.

Oh, I don't think bitterness has anything to do with it. I believe any member of the band would find the sentiment of that fairly amusing if something similar was said about them.
