Yes, I found out, it is based on an old Japanese story made in to a film in the sixties called Double-Suicide, looks very interesting, hope to see it one day.

I remember a while back, someone saying that the way Stevie and Lindsey are laying down.....and Mick and John are laying down holding hands...that together the 4 of them are forming "SYW" Stevie as the S for "Say" Lindsey is the Y for "You" and Mick and John form the W for "Will"
Maybe we should of asked John in the Q and A...................

I didn't know about that and never seen the movie, but I love the fact the cover is inspired by a Shinoda's film, he is such a visually powerful (and melodramatic) director. Great choice!

Weird. I always figured it was a "Murrow Turning Over In His Grave" thing. The stuff they're lying on looks like coffin lining or whatever it's called, and they all look sorta dead. At least Stevie. Everyone else sorta ruins it. Eyes open, etc.

Neat!

Also interesting: The Criterion Collection DVD Cover. Notice the similarities in font & color.

I believe the cover shoot was done when the album was still going to be a double album, so I ws thinking the "double suicide" was a wry joke about how releasing a double album might be career suicide.

I'm sure there's a good chance that Lindsey, with his interest in quality cinema, had seen this film at some point, and mooted the concept to the rest of them.

This is just awesome - thanks for posting. And it's the first I've heard of it - which is very cool considering the album is nearing 2 years old. Makes me look at the album anew, and I can't wait to listen to it again.

They only show the photo shoot in "Destiny Rules", with no discussion of it. Could this have been a Herb Worthington idea, or do we know if it was band member decision?

Was this discussed before and I just missed it? Man, I hate that "out-of-the-Mac-loop" feeling...
