I am mortally afraid of birds. I have been since I was a kid. They freak me out with their beady eyes and scary beaks and devil claws.

I've gone through phases where I've gotten better about it. A few years ago I was starting to do well, and then went to the zoo and just as I was walking out of the Amazon exhibit, I think, a bird swooped for my head and knocked my sunglasses off my head (I had them up, headband style) and I screamed and wanted to bawl.

Something's in the air lately. Yesterday was awful with the birds. The geese at work were out in force- when I came out for lunch, they were gathered around by my car. Ugghhh. Then I went to Meijer and there were a random HUGE pack of seagulls in the parking lot. I parked as far away from them as I could, but when I left the store, they'd gravitated all the way over to my car. I sped into my car, but then when I pulled out they literally started to SWOOP around my car- it was awful. I started to cry. Then, when I got home, my apartment complex's geese were blocking the building's door. UGHGHGHGGHHH.

Brian- I'm also in total fear of losing my hearing. Tinnitus is my biggest nightmare (aside from birds clawing my eyes out, that is).

I just saw that Japanese horror movie "Ju-On" (The Grudge) and it scared the piss out of me!! I love horror movies so normally it takes a lot to really frighten me, but I was absolutely petrified after seeing that movie and it stayed with me for DAYS...

wow - this sounds like me and bees....and I don't care what people say - they DO bother you even if you don't bother them lol....just the other day I came out of the store and there was a bee just flying around my car's driver side door....it flew away and ran into my car....but seriously...the bee came back and kept flying into the window...it freaked me out!!

My sister has a friend who feels birds should not be allowed to just fly around freely as they do lol....she hates them...

Your bird thing, for some reason, reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where the guy calls Elaine "Big Head" and then later in the park a bird actually flies right into her head.....

I'm sorry, this had me rolling...I think it reminded me of a farside or something...chased by a clown...driving a car

I tell ya - when you're afraid of something like that it's like the species harasses you on purpose....they find it amusing...

I always joke with my friends that bees spot me and then say to their bee friends, "oh there's Deanna...let's go..." then they mercilessly hover around me....

ANyway - glad the clown story got some laughs - I can totally see the humor in it....it was just so random....but I guess clowns gotta get around somehow...

I'm saying "devil claws" in my Lorelai Gilmore tone, not a real one! I just hate them. They're just so gross.

I don't have that much contact with them, although moving to downtown Chicago with all the f-ing pigeons was scary for me for awhile. But I'm telling you- seeing them everywhere in the last couple of days is trippy and very unusual. They're planning something, I'm telling you.

Being scared of birds isn't a terribly uncommon fear- I've met several people who share it. My best friend is scared/disturbed by maps. THAT'S weird. Birds are pretty normal in comparison.

I have a friend who is completely horrified by ventriloquist's dummies. I'm not sure how odd that is, but it seemed strange to me when she first mentioned it. If you really think about it, though, they are a bit creepy.

Here's another weird one. My daughter's kindergarden teacher is deathly afraid of midgets. She had to get off an elevator at a hospital when a midget got on with her!!

Ventriloquist's dummies do creep me out... I can't stand them.

I think it's the eyes and their mouth... that seems to be always smiling...
