Default Round & Round #18: Beautiful Child.

"Beautiful Child" didn't get into the top5 of the FM Legboard 2003 poll (which included all FM songs) for nothing. The popularity of that and "I Know I'm Not Wrong" has obviously increased among the fans because of both having been included in the setlist for the SYW tour. I was tremendously moved by "BC" in Oberhausen anyway. It was difficult for me to pick between the vulnerability of "BC" and the life-affirming qualities of "IKINW". "Storms would have been far easier for me to try to vote off. But "strategery is strategery".

Of course, dear. However, now you naturally believe that I voted the way I voted because of your subtle manipulation, not because of my honest feelings.

Again, this is not a poll and most certainly is not a reflection of peoples' favorites. This, instead, is a game wherein the best or at least most popular may not and usually will not win because the most popular a la Sara is taken out fairly early to avoid it trouncing competition. So, any disconcert with the winner should IMO be directed at the game and the plans within plans of the players, etc.

And I never said that this is a poll. But don't tell me, have the people gone totally ruthless and emotionless and have no connection whatsoever to the songs left?

Jason, did you ever consider that some people might actually be sick of "Sara" to the same level as they are sick of "Dreams" or even "Don't Stop"? Certainly all this mythical quality that it has gained throughout the years in the community affects that, plus all the hoopla on the fanboards to get it back to the setlist and so on. It may not be as overplayed as the two other songs I mentioned but constant speaking about the song will make some feel a bit irritated, to say the least. And I'm not ignoring the strategy votes here, believe me.

(Hell, I would've wanted it to be in top three, but nevermind.)

I was just getting a vibe that people were disappointed in that they thought it unfair if LB, who masterminded the concept of essentially all of Tusk - did not have more songs in the top five and that not having more songs in the top five was a reflection of the quality of these songs - essentially ditto for the great and talented CM. I was just pointing out that this game is not a reflection of quality or popularity. It is a game of skill and apparently ALL (LB fans, Chiffonheads, etc.) players have used that fact to their advantage - yet people skewer the chiffonheads (again and interestingly no one has yet identified these so called people despite being called out to do so ) for playing the game when they do the SAME EXACT THING Again, all have tried for immunity, I have gotten PM's from many in this and the other game, and people are building clandestine coalitions. So, I was just noting all of that and indicating that this is a game, etc., which you say you knew

As for being sick of Sara - sure there are bound to be some. But, the sword cuts both ways and did anyone ever consider that people, like myself, think The Ledge is garbage and not worthy of being of Tusk much less any other record - yet at the same time others think it is the paradigm of LB's talent, which I think SMAP is So, once again, it all comes down to individual taste and all of this (figuratively) "he is a Stevie fan and can never like LB song and will do anything to make sure LB cannot win this" is just a load of crap IMO. But, those that wish to perpetutate that false and purposefully inflammatory mindset will do so and who am I to keep them down.

What I do object to is the underlying feeling of some that if Stevie wins it will be a travesty because she has no talent, is a flake, owes everything to LB, her rabid fans love only her and no other FM member, blah blah blah. While no one has said exactly that - it certainly has been implied (at least to me) and I think that that mindset is complete crap IMO - but and again, others clearly perpetuate it to be inflammatory and then cave in when called out on it. Such is the never ending state of the saga on this and other boards AND - at least it makes for fun reading and if for nothing else to show the level of stupidity that some (on all sides and certainly in the past including me) will sink to in an effort to glorify and insult people they will never meet or know a la FM

Yes Jason. I don't think "Sara" went out too soon solely because of the Lindsey mafia though, the same gang failed in getting enough votes for other Stevie songs as you probably witnessed yourself if you read the previous rounds of votes.
But I do think that people love these three remaining songs a lot. They're not just here because they were deemed the most likely to stay in the game this long; they're songs we all obviously enjoy. Stuff that the fan community can agree upon. Ok, Cristian may hate "IKINW" to death and Marc may do the same to "Beautiful Child" but there's nowhere on this planet a song that someone doesn't dislike from the bottom of one's heart. We are all allowed our personal quirks, after all.

That doesn't speak of anything else than what people listen to in Stevie Nicks songs released within Fleetwood Mac. Some relate to the lyrics and the performance, and the musical aspects of the songwriting very powerfully. I relate to the entire track itself, the way Stevie sings it, the way she reacts to the instruments, the way those instruments react to her, etc. There is a Buckingham-Nicks connection in there, if merely in the way the lead instruments and the lead voices speak to each other. That's something that never comes out in Stevie Nicks solo music for understandable reasons.

Of course, I've seen the counter-argument being thrown around too. That Lindsey is at his best when he's inspired by Stevie. But with things like Tusk one can't pull that trick, because the overwhelming majority of what he did rejected the Rumours formula which involved Stevie Nicks' vocals. And if someone likes his tracks for the lyrics alone (which might as well be about picking his nose, all of them), then .

See - I disagree - I think FM produces things as a band and they all give input in varying degrees. I think Stevie's presence as well as that of CM, can be felt on all of LB's tracks. Stevie makes up incredible harmonies and those come from her and enhance the song (otherwise why would LB keep them on there ) - so I think no is pulling the euphamistic "trick" - I think they are collaborative efforts to some degree. But, people will never admit that - it is all LB and the others are gnats on his ass

I don't really mind. I like Beautiful Child, Storms and I Know I'm Not Wrong. I think the likes of The Ledge and What Makes You Think You're The One going early is tragic though.
