Yeah, they hated each other's guts but I guess that contributed to the tension.

John's greatest contribution: his cardboard cutout on the Tusk video.

He was in Tahiti. And, as he says, he "wasn't about to come back for it!"

One of my favorite John contributions... his awesome bassline to "Never Going Back Again" on the 'Live In Boston' DVD.

Bonham/Jones?
Moon/Entwhistle?

BTW, even Mick and John say these two were the best. The magic of Fleetwood/McVie is that unlike the other rhythm sections, they had to work with a wide range of writers/musicians, not just one or two (other) writers.

Good point, but comparing Fleetwood/McVie with Bonham/Jones or Moon/Entwistle is comparing apples with pomegranates: they both essentially the same color & shape, but inside they're vastly different. Whereas the latter rhythm sections were about showmanship, polyrhythmic complexity & metal intensity, Fleetwood/McVie typically toned down their attack in order to let the song itself take center stage. Fleetwood/McVie wouldn't be all that stunning on "Baba O'Riley," but Moon/Entwistle wouldn't know what the hell to do with "Dreams."

There are SO many things to love about The Amazing Mr McVie, that I get overwhelmed and can't name just one thing.

That's all I can say.

I couldn't hear him singing on The Dance. On the DVD you can see his lips move (just) but I can't hear him.

My favorite things about Johnny:

1. He's the only one in the band with enough sense to be a republican! Right on, Johnny!!
2. His bass playing is smooth, strong, but not overwhelming. At times, you almost don't even realize that you are hearing it, but when its taken away, the songs sound completely naked.
3. The way he can jam in a concert-- think of Not That Funny and I'm So Afraid. Classics.
4. How even though he's never really seemed to acquire a really huge fanbase, he does not seem to let it bother him. So what? Lindsey and Stevie get all the publicity. He knows that he's the man, and he shows no jealousy. I like that too!
5. He's stayed with the band through highs and lows. He's been there since the beginning, he's seen at least a dozen and a half lineup changes, and still he's there rocking. Lindsey quits, no big deal. Peter walks out, so what? Christine throws in the towel, what's your point? But if we lost John, I bet the band wouldn't exist.
6. I still think it was his idea to add I Know I'm Not Wrong, Sara, Red Rover, and all those other great songs that we all loved into the setlist. Its not like any of the other 3 ever actually think about what their FANS want.....!
7. And finally-- he's going to be the first of the fireflies to do a Q and A! This clearly shows that he loves us!

WAY TO BE JOHN MCVIE!

Adam

Another thing that occurred to me today about the general coolness of our John is this...
EVERY time I've seen the Mac live, when the point comes in the show where the individual
band members are introduced, John has ALWAYS got the LOUDEST audience response/reaction.
He is truly loved by his fans and apparently the feeling is mutual, hence the upcoming Q&A!
PS-ANOTHER thing I just noticed...when referring to the band in an abbreviated way notice how
it's always the MAC and NEVER the Fleetwood...

I want someone to ask him if he still is one...I mean, c'mon, how could he still be?
