Default Another new cover

Just a quick note of interest. There is a blue grass-like band called the Meat Purveyors who have a new album out called Pain By Numbers which contains a cover of "Monday Morning". You can hear a partial clip of it if you look up the album on Amazon.

They may be playing in a city near you! Here's some articles I just read about 'em - they are fantastic - and I'm not really a bluegrass fan - but they're good!

Kansas City

This one calls them "the Fleetwood Mac of Austin."

Minneapolis

Default Another one too

Thanks for the article, Livia.

And another new cover...an artist named Nora O'Connor has done a cover of "That's Alright" on her new album 'Til The Dawn. I haven't found a place to hear a clip of her cover yet though.

An interesting sidenote, both The Meat Purveyors and Nora O'Connor are on the same label, Bloodshot Records.

Hmmm... perhaps Lindsey could get himself a contract over there, huh? Drop Warners.

Les, how've you been!? Haven't seen you around these parts? Have you been hiding from us?

I've just found the Nora O'Connor cover here (scroll down it's near the end of the review):

Hi shttp://monkeysars.net/2004/08/introducing-miss-nora-oconnor-frickin.html

Definitely country, but she has a nice voice, it's quite good IMO.

Niiiice! Nice modern sound with sparse production. Beautiful voice. Nice harmonies. Dang, I like that. I like twangy music anyway.

O'Connor's voice is very similar to Shawn Colvin's, and recalls a hint of Mary Chapin Carpenter. The cover is country acoustic, even more country than the original. Understated, but nice. I'll post the track later today.

That Meat Purveyors cover is intriguing. I love bluegrass, but I'm having a bit of trouble adjusting to this very different cover of a beloved tune. Will give it a chance and try again later.

There's another Nora song up there. Very tastefully done traditional country folk. Man, that is so refreshing in light of the pollution produced by the likes of Tim McGraw, Shania Twain, Toby Keith, etc.

Thumbs up That's Alright

That's Alright

I just finished listening to the entire album. It's pretty darn good. It's mostly a collection of covers, but most of them are done well. There's one track (Love Letters) that's absolutely gorgeous.
