Obviously the aural experiences of "Save Me A Place" from both of you differ like night and day.
In the Tango In The Night survivor thread you criticized "Ricky", even typed down it's lyrics to show how "anemic" it is and how there's not that much going on in that song either. Considering how you are a person who takes lyrical contributions to be very important to a song, it is not surprising to hear an opinion like this from you.
So, um, what makes "That's All For Everyone" so outstanding then? There's not much lyrical content there either, now is there? Of course, if you prefer to hear less than two minutes of a musical & lyrical loop than four minutes of one (="Ricky") then I do understand your statement.
"Save Me A Place", "That's All For Everyone" and "Ricky" are in essence relatively esoteric pieces with sparse lyrics. The message of these songs reaches beyond the superficial lyrical content. Whatever simplicity there seems to be, it is always shaded by something complex and carefully thought-out. The same I can say for the likes of "When I See You Again". The things the songs are trying to convey may be cryptic for some, but they can all be related to on a deep emotional level. Of course it might take a bulldozer, a battle-axe and the willpower of Mohammed to get to that point, but whatever.

I don't know how it comes off, but I never take personal offense to anyone not liking "When I See You Again."
I think the song is brilliant, and to be totally honest, I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks about it. I'd be perfectly content being the one and only person in this entire world who likes it. I'm a snob in those regards. If I like a song, my opinion is the only one that matters to me.
But I'm fully prepared to discuss its merits, and to explain why I love it so much... without just falling into the "because I like it, that's why" trap.

And it's the same thing with "Save Me A Place." I'm not going to just vote it off, or say I dislike it, without offering an explanation as to why.

I'm not saying anyone else should dislike it... it just surprises me that it's liked more than "That's All For Everyone." A song that I feel, while lyrically simple (in the best of ways, mind you), has a lot of depth to it, both vocally and instrumentally.
But at the end of the day, it's not something I lose any sleep over.

Also, about the lyrics thing... I thought I've stated on many occasions that a song doesn't have to be lyrics-heavy for me to enjoy it. I am a Lindsey fan, and most of his songs are not lyrics-heavy. But yeah, if you're going to make me choose between someone who tends to have sparse lyrics, and someone whose songs are lyrics-dominated, then I'll take the latter... but that's just the way I lean, and it doesn't at all mean that I don't still like and appreciate the former style.

I also thought I explained why I feel the way I do about "Ricky" (which is, for the record, a song I like).
It's just that I didn't feel it was strong enough for 'Tango,' as it is. "Everywhere" is also a relatively simple song, lyrically, and I love that song... and I know you have a deep distaste for it ("housewife music," and all that). In the case of "Ricky," I just feel that, at nearly 5 minutes long, it doesn't have enough going on in it to merit a spot on the album. I think that's a reasonable enough opinion.

I don't hate Chris! I just don't like her as well as I do Lindsey or Stevie. That being said, I'll vote off "The Ledge" before "Think About Me" any day.

I also like "I Must Go," "Family Man," "Oh Diane" and "Not That Funny" better than "Save Me A Place"!

They're all just more interesting to me... musically & vocally, and even lyrically for that matter.
