"The Nightmare" is probably the epitome of what Gaius would consider to be "excess bordering on self-parody," because of its references to ivory mornings, dreams, nightmares, storms, the moon (and her sisters), as well as being taken prisoner, being blinded by the light of the day, and drowning in the sea of love.

And yet, it's all so perfectly "Stevie." I think David once said that it's like Stevie's entire essence encapsulated in one song.
I believe he also said it's the "'Wuthering Heights' of Stevie's songs," and that's a pretty terrific description.

I guess it's "too much" for some, but I love it (though I greatly prefer the "special remix," from the "I Can't Wait" maxi-single).

The Nightmare is one of only 2 songs that I really like from Rock a Little. The other is No Spoken Word.

That remix makes it a bit more tolerable, you're right.

I don't where to begin looking for it, but there was a post from David where he pretty much said he loved the song but that it was rather incomprehensible. I liked that post.

Crappiest is the truth!! Testify, sistah!!! However, the Unholy Three from Street Angel would have to be: Docklands, Greta, and Unconditional Love

Yes! That's exactly how I feel. It's just the perfect Stevie song.

No one can, including La Nicks.
I always thought the actual song RAL sounded as though she smoked a blunt, 10 cigs, and then did a line before recording. I still maintain it has fabulous Sharona backing vocals which are more than likely the reason I keep listening to it. And yes, I agree with Jake...Lindsey does do the whisper vocals quite often. If it wasn't for the fact that i'd heard She Smiled Sweetly before he recorded it, i'd have no idea wtf he was saying. He has a bad habit of doing it but I don't mind all that much...it's what he does. At least i'll never confuse him for another artist (a la boy bands)

I like Sister Honey. I just think it's an upbeat and fun song. You're such a Debbie Downer

I sure pissed on your party cake by the looks of it, darling.

I agree about some of Lindsey's vocals, though. For example, "I Want You." I've had the goddamned album for almost 15 years and I still don't know what the hell he's singing unless I have the lyrics in front of me. And let's not even talk about the first time I heard "Murrow" and "Red Rover" from GOS. I thought I was having an acid trip.

Pissing on my party cake...hmph...I'm used to it

Go Insane...that whole album kills me. I usually just listen to the title track, Slow Dancing, and Loving Cup. I am a fan of his music big time but much like you with Stevie's RAL, I can't get all the way into the album.

The only song I can't take on it is D.W. Suite. It's too much even for me and I'm a die-hard Lindsey fan. It works as separate songs, not one. Play In the Rain is fascinating every time I listen to it and he pulls out all the stops on Bang the Drum.

That SNL sketch was the funniest thing I've seen in a long, long time! HELLA funny! I busted watching the camara zoom in on Rachel Dratch's face as the "wah-wah-wahhh.." trumpet part goes off. No matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't deliver those lines without losing it.

PRICELESS!!!!

Yeah, and I still like it. Damn that bitch.

And as you noticed in my categories in this thread, I consider "excess" a virtue when discussing Stevie Nicks.

I love this album. I love Imperial Hotel, it makes me laugh, in a good way. I love No Spoken Word. Best listened to very loud, all of it. It's what I love about Stevie, one of the things I love, that some songs are so odd if you analyze them, if you look at the lyrics on a page, but they sound great. They are moving and funny. Maybe I have heard Has Anyone Ever Written too often because it doesn't do anything for me any more.. like Beauty and the Beast. I like the rockier numbers.
