I think that one reason the album doesn't quite go over well with people at first is the track listing, like was said before. Sticking "Murrow" and "lllume" as the 2nd/3rd tracks was a risky decision. It just seems to me like they belong further down the line, possibly after Bleed to Love Her and before EFO. I feel that Murrow (even though I like the song) doesn't capture the feel of the rest of the album, and to have that as your second kicker on the album just doesn't work out. THEN to follow it up with Illume, Stevie's most artistic and left-field song (in my opinion) really throws you for a loop the first listening. Then it kicks into Thrown Down, Miranda, etc. and suddenly we're on good safe F-Mac territory.

Coming out of a long Gift of Screws period, I had already grown to love Lindsey's stuff and it did take me a while to get into Stevie's, but once I did the entire album (minus Silver Girl) was great for me. The length of it helps with those long commutes and weekend drives in the country. I head out until "Come"s finished and when I get to "Smile At You" I turn around and start driving back home :-)

I'm just trying to get a handle on your process, I don't think i've heard anyone else call Thrown Down "wretched" and in fact it was one of my first favorites. Silver Girl is a bit wretched for me...The whole thing is just very mysterious...

I know this isn't directed at me but Thrown Down is pretty boring! You think that Thrown Down is better then Illume and Everybody Finds Out? I think that is strange because it is pretty obvious those songs are stronger and have more of an edge. Just my opinion!

Me too! I love the whole album and would be mad if they took even my least favorite song off! I can listen to all 18 songs and don't even get the urge to hit the skip button! I say if you think it is too long just burn a condensed version and make your own cd!

What's everyone's beef with Silver Girl? That song rocks!

Okay, I have a question- what is everyone's current favorite song on Say You Will?

Mine is RTTG.

Hmm that's hard but my absolute favorite is probably RTTG...but closely followed by Red Rover, Silver Girl, Destiny Rules...and so on.

The great thing about SYW is that it's all good (IMHO). Although it seems like a lot of you don't share this sentiment, I can listen to the whole thing (although the Morrow guitar solo gets a little irritating after a while)

Thrown Down is my definite favorite, followed by Running Through the Garden, and, well, basically the whole album.

Yes. The melody and vocal are better, the phrasing is more melodic and dramatic, the words are more engaging and dramatic, the whole song is more passionate. A lot of it is as simple as the notes, for me, but still. And I like EFO better than Illume, but not as well as either RTTG or Smile at You or Goodbye, Baby. I do not think Illume has an "edge". at all.

IMO, Silver Girl does not "rock". It oozes and floats and meanders.

I like Silver Girl, not because it rocks...because it doesn't. I like it because it's soft and soothing, like a lullaby. In that quality it's similar to a little song I happen to like called Sara.

Hello, that's just what I did! I do think it's too long and I think some of the songs in there are pure filler. So what. Now I have a shorter version for all that matters.

Yes I agree with you, RTTG is the best track on this album. It really does pack a punch.

I don't rate SYW much, very boring song. I also like Peacekeeper and Say Goodbye. I love the performance of Say Goodbye on the "Live in Boston" album. The way Stevie and Lindsey face each other and sing this to each other, almost like a lullaby, its so so sweet. The fans in the audience are in awe just watching them sing this track.

I really don't like Red Rover, it really bugs me when it comes on and I skip it every time. The song starts off ok but I don't like the chorus.

Considering they don't have CHristine, they have done a good job of this album.

When I bought SYW, I unwrapped it and put it in my discman almost immediatey. I was prepared for the fact that I wasn't going to hear Rumours II. I was right. I liked it right away. It sounded fresh. I heard a band moving forward. They took advantage of Christine's absence and took their music in a more aggressive direction. It was Mac for the 2000's. I still play it on a regular basis.
