Thumbs down Soundstage CD Overdubs! You wont believe it!

Hey guys, I work part time at Best Buy and we got the Fleetwood Mac DVD/CD sets in our store already. It was in the back, so I greedily tore open a copy of the CD to listen to it while I was back there.

The audio sounded pretty good, yet, there was something greatly disturbing about Go Your Own Way. During the "middle" solo of the song where Lindsey gets down in the crowd, I expected to hear a barrage of bad notes. You know, because the crowd is banging on the guitar and all. What did they do? They overdubbed it with the part from "The Dance." They took the same riff and just plopped it in there!!

Now at first I thought I was crazy, but I've listened to the Dance so many times I memorized it note for note. AND, I'm a musician so it was easy for me to pick that out. The effects were different on it to give it a "live" feel. But I'm 99% positive its an overdub. How lame. I hope they didn't do that on the actual DVD.

Not surprising. I'm sure this whole thing is going to be overdubbed to death, but that's what this band is about: perfection. Even if it makes them look foolish.

Give us a review after you've digested it all!!!!

This may be a silly question, but I thought they turned Lindsey's guitar down/off during that part?

In concert, there are no bad notes when the crowd plays his guitar. But, even so, I am SURE they overdubbed. Weren't they rumored to be in Switzerland do them after Australia?

Talking more thoughts...

there are no "bad" notes when the audience plays his guitar?! are ya nuts? When I saw the band live and the front row-ers go to bang on his guitar I wanted to cringe. It was like listening to a 5 year old pick up a guitar for the first time.

Anyways...Eyes of the World was cool for an intro tune. Dreams sounded ok. Stevie's voice was nice. Rhiannon was ok, but sounded very "slow." Big Love didn't sound that great at all...nowhere near as good as "The Dance." Come sounded pretty good. The guitar solo at the end was really long...I'm So Afraid wasnt as good as the Dance either, but hey....Silver Springs and Stand Back sounded nice. Then of course, Landslide, which always sounds nice. Go Your Own Way was alright except for both guitar solos I was disappointed in. I think the "feel" of the songs will be better with the DVD. They didn't translate live very well like "The Dance" did.

Talking

What I'm saying is, on the Boston Live DVD that is about to come out, I'm sure the DVD will not be overdubbed. You will probably see Lindsey down in the crowd. BUT for the CD release, which I listened to, they did overdub it. Imagine being a casual fan, and popping the CD in your car, and hearing this barrage of bad picking during that part. Without the "visual" of the DVD you wouldn't know what the hell was going on. Make sense?

I thought so too but in Atlanta it was definitely not turned off for the first minute or so and you could definitely hear it. I was surprised.

I don't think overdubbing it makes them foolish---now, the DVD of the front row SITTING DOWN maybe.

I can still hear Stevie's non-existant harmony in some of the stage songs, at the concerts. I could just be making it up inside my head where the harmonies should go as dictated by the albums the songs appeared on, but I can usually distinctly hear that Stevie voice and she's a good ways away from the microphone.

Talking I just watched Soundstage

I just watched it on PBS and had a WTH?! moment during Tusk. I THINK they may have dubbed in the Dance "TUSK!" with Christine in there...but I'm not 100% sure. It sounds exactly like The Dance version to me tho. LOL

There were lots of WTH?! moments in regards to vocals, and Stevie did a break in her voice during....can't remember, was it Landslide (?), anyways, it was WAY cool!!

ISA...brought me to tears and gave me chills, because the solo was WAAAAAYYYY different than I've heard before, it was raw and powerful. Of course, it ALWAYS is, but this one was just....there was something about it. I can't explain it in words, you'll have to see/hear it.

Her scream in GDW...I got CHILLS!! It may have rivaled The Dance!!

Come was AWESOME!!!!!

Yeah they definitely were off to do overdubs somewhere after the Australian dates. We got told 'Geneva' by one of the backing band or someone (forget who exactly, as it was Lux who heard it), but in any case Lux thinks that 'Geneva' was a joke.

As for Lindsey's guitar being off for the part where we maul him and his guitar? Yes, I think Neale was playing the lead in that song, with Carlos doing the acoustic, or vice versa. Sure Lindsey's lead guitar levels got boosted up sometimes in the mix, but through MUCH of the concert, it was painfully clear to see from the 3 concerts in which I was standing under him, that (in Australia at least) Lindsey was focusing on the singing and, although trying his best to pretend to play, had a low guitar level in the mix and so got away with awkward, systaltic and usually late flailings at the strings which were most definitely not what were being broadcast around the arena. Carlos and Neale aren't there to add backup support - they're there to play a great deal of the music. Which, after I got over the inital shock, was fine by me ... Lindsey still played many parts after all (highlights for me being the Chain intro, the ISA & Come solos, the intro and breaks between verses for GDW, and of course his trademark - the acoustics like Say Goodbye).

All that said.... for the CD especially - I would much rather have overdubs, as we have 1001 bootlegs of the real thing anyway. I don't know about just copying and pasting the section from the Dance though - that's a bit lame! Although that solo did go off!

I've always thought Lindsey is not really playing as much guitar as we think, but who knows? If I was him I would just focus on the guitar because his live singing this tour has been pretty bad.

Hence he should be concentrating less on the singing?
