thanks for posting this information and thanks for posting them! I never expected this....and when i first read the title of the post i expected some cheesy audience recording. but this is unbelievable. i think someone leaked them on purpose. And i'm sure we'll get more tracks from the same concert. I wonder if this is from their last performance? Didn't they play in AL for their farewell show?

for the Buckingham/Nicks Tuscaloosa, AL show (This is according to Gary Hodges Penguin Q&A from June 2000). I don't know if this is the exact set order but mighty interesting none-the-less:
Lola My Love Rhiannon Don't Let Me Down Again Crystal Lady From The Mountain Frozen Love Races Are Run I Don't Wanna Know Blue Letter

SO THIS HAD TO BE A SHOW DURING THE fm-RECORDINGS????? sorry for shouting. But Blue letter in a B/N-set doesnot seem logical from the story about when it was taped the first time. OK, can anybody clear this up? A very interesting set indeed. historyclass, mates! gerald

Tom says about Lindsey & Stevie, "I consider myself one of their biggest fans. I don't see any reason why they can't be hot everywhere. There are other people we can play with & enjoy, but it's not the same. So they'll go out there & do their best, & when it's over we'll be here." Seems as if Lindsey & Stevie planned -- or at least told the press so -- to return to Buckingham Nicks after the Fleetwood Mac 1975 album & tour.

Thanks, David (and Brian for the Q&A-link).
But still, I thought Blue Letter came into picture during the recording of FM, That they met the Curtis bros in the studio there and heard the song. So how can it be in their live set? Maybe I am reading totally wrong, but your very interesting source doesn't give clearance on that. Or does it? gerald

I believe Lindsey actually knew the Curtis Brothers before being involved with the Mac, so it seems plausible that he was familiar with the song as it was being created, even before it was selected for the white album. Ex-Fritz bandmate Bob Aguirre played with the Curtis Brothers. When Bob did his Q&A here at the Penguin I asked him about his involvement with the Curtis Brothers and he said the following: Q - I read an article many years ago that left the impression on me that you drummed for the Curtis Brothers in the 70s. Is that right? If so, how long were you involved with them? Did you play a role in writing and bringing "Blue Letter" to Lindsey's (and Fleetwood Mac's) attention for inclusion on the 1975 Fleetwood Mac album? A - Lesley, you sure know you`re stuff. Yes I played with the Curtis boys and by the way we recorded an album of some really good songs that never got released. And yes, LB did help out on some of those tracks. Actually LB was already friends of the Curtis Bros. before the Mac and introduced me to them.

Thanks to Mari, Neil and whoever else was involved in sharing these with us lowly fans.
I especially like this Rhiannon take, and frankly, I wish they had recorded it more like this for the FM album. This version has a raw, honest-to-goodness quality that becomes obscured by the sheen of the studio recording. I have especially been disenchanted with Rhiannon since The Dance. To me the way the band started performing it on that tour sucked a lot of the life out of it. I don't dig the piano intros and the way the song sputters to an end, like a car that has run out of gas on the highway. I'm not a fan of the piano in pop music, anyway. I like the live 70s versions, though I realize Stevie cannot, and should not, sing like that anymore. Anyhoo, these are great. |
