You know, I haven't been pleasantly surprised by a live show in a long time. Thank you David Bowie, thank you for renewing my faith in older artists who obviously rock, but who also take chances and fight the good fight to remain relevant, fresh, and cutting edge, and who would rather retire than grow stale and boring.

But then again, Bowie fans expect nothing less. Bowie has always embraced change and changeability. Fleetwood Mac is a whole different animal... at least with regard to their live shows. I think SYW is a very fresh, creative album for the most part, now if we could just hear some of it live!

I have to admit, my least fave ISA's are on the OOTC tour.

Are you ? LOL

Yeah, he did half FM songs and half solo songs. He could have done more solo stuff, I agree. OMG, Shadow of the West, Slow Dancing, Loving Cup....OH YEAH!!!!

Bowie simply rocks. His mix contest rocked, even though I had a hard time making one. He has always embraced the cutting edge stuff. He was even one the first artists to embrace XM Radio and the internet. And I LOVE how he lets people bootleg his stuff. At the last show I went to, the guy in front of me was holding up his recorder in the air towards the stage and it was the only the third row. Bowie just encourages the love of music and I find that utterly fantastic.

And just look at his albums. He doesn't slack off. He practically releases them every year these days and they get better and better. I mean, Heathen? Reality? We're talking masterpieces here.

PS: If he can have the audacity to release Beauty and the Beast as a single, he can certainly have the audacity to open a show with it!!

I agree about FM's set in stone ways about the set list and ESPECIALLY Lindsey's speeches and SN and LB's stage antics (hugging at the same time every show, etc). But I disagree about the concert prices and I'm no millionaire. Tom Petty can charge half of what FM does because it's Tom Petty people are paying to see. FM is primarily a band and Stevie and Lindsey get paid as equally as John and Mick. Taint so with TP's Heartbreakers, they're (like the E Street Band) just backing musicians. I gladly pay extra for FM to see the interplay between equal stars (well maybe not in John's case).

Foul. ( Jason!)

People pay to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, the Heartbreakers get a big chunk of the change. Yet, for some reason, even with the low, low ticket prices, Petty still walks away with millions.

And Mick and John don't get nearly as much as Stevie and Linds. I doubt they even make $75,000 each every show. I don't know the exact figures, but they get much less than the two "stars."

Well, Stevie and Lindsey separately (and I'm fully aware of both of their flaws) are more exciting than Petty (and I have all TP's albums--he's pretty boring in concert and his voice ain't the best). So, even having just them (SN and LB) BOTH on the same stage is worth double the Petty tix price. Tho I agree, FM can take a page from the TP book and juggle the content of the shows.

Really? I think he comes alive in concert. The last Petty show I saw was over three hours and the guy just kept going and going and going. I totally love him!!

I totally agree about Petty RULING in concert... I've seen him so many times, most recently in Chicago at the Vic, where he played a five night stand that was absolutely electrifiying. I also disagree about the Heartbreakers, they are more than just a backing band. That show goes from being great to f-ing amazing with musicians like Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench.

so, at the next FM show we expect them to sing the first few lines of "the chain", when all of a sudden, the pink tom petty energizer comes sliding out.....

Thumbs up I saw the Stones...

When I saw them in 1998 (or 99?) they were doing songs requested by fans through the Internet. Hey, they added Gimme Shelter to the regular setlist because it was always being requested. I believe the night I saw them, they played Factory Girl! Think about that! Factory Girl. That had to come from some diehard fans.

Fleetwood Mac needs spontaneity and stage courage.
this past tour and it was indeed a show with lots of spontaneity, And the opening act was Ryan Adams (Who most of the OKC crowd did not seem to know when he first took the stage but was giving him a standing ovation when he finished his set by tossing his guitar high in the air and letting it splat the ground. No thank yous for the audience from Mr.Adams & band in a very punkish way...A Very rocking set!)

I liked how the Stones chose a specific album each night to highight from their careers (ON Jan.28,2003 it was "Exile On Main Street"...Loved hearing "Sweet Virginia", "Loving Cup" & "Rocks Off" live! I was personally disappointed though that "Gimme Shelter" was skipped on this night, But in favor of the Dylan classic "Like A Rolling Stone" it was a fair tradeoff) wished the Mac could/would do the same with highlighting a specfic album (Wait, they do..."Rumours" every night, How could I forget, LOL!!!).

Definitely a great show for the $56.25 I paid for my ticket the day of the show (My ticket was in the $150 section even though the price was reduced). Btw the Stones merchandise was much cheaper and of a better quality overall than FM's...

Well that`s a new info for me. I think they have become their own revival band. At the Urban Jungle tour 89 they played a lot of material from their current album Steel wheels. The album was in the focus of the show and of course there were lots of other songs from the 80`s to the 60`s too.

In 1994 they only had I think 3 new songs in their setlist from their current album. The rest was the greatest hits catalogue. I wasn't really pleased with that approach but still visited the show.

In 1998 or 99 as the Internet vote rubbish began they just did the Greatest hits catalogue. Every moron voted for Satisfaction and that f.e. is a song that I don`t want to hear ever again because it has been played a trazillion times. Be that as it may- I am glad to hear that they mix it up too and that at some shows there seem to have been rare songs. But the time for them to tour for a new album which is in the focus of the show (as it should be) is over and as long as this is the case I won`t go to a Stones show again. That is my definition of a revival band- no new material, relying on old stuff over and over, pleasing people who think of their youth and their first joint then.

The same goes with FM. Let people vote on the Internet and you won`t hear a single new song. Red rover would be buried and never see the light of the day again on stage. Remember people like that radio idiot last week or so that said how he only wants to hear the old hits on the show and that even while LB sat beneath him. He should crush his Turner on these peoples heads rather than during a show

Finally I`d like to mention Lou Reed who toured in support for "New York" and did the whole album live except "Good evening Mr. Waldheim". After that he also did songs from the predecessor and then some other 80`s stuff and finally also the old hits.

Or N.Young doing his new stuff no matter how much some people think he should do his own revival tour.

Default The Masses and the Dedicated

after spending literally thousands of dollars the last time the band toured, i'm just tired and uneasy about doing it again. i was expecting more and as i see songs dropping left and right, i am not sure that i will go to more than one or two concerts this time around. sara is a big treat and i was not a big fan of DR of DLMDA. I just wanted something new. this is not a band that lacks great songs. there are many hits that they could have done--and satified both the masses and the dedicated. it would have been a great gift to fans to create an a invigorated set list.

Amen. I agree totally. I just saw Prince, who I am a fairly casual fan of. I wouldn't have enjoyed the show at all if he had only done songs from "Musicology" and, god forbid, "The Rainbow Children" It was bad enough that he did most of his hits in "Medley" form...God, I hate that.

Maybe one of these day Fleetwood Mac will do a smaller club (Like House of Blues) tour and pull out a bunch of obscure hits for those of us who are Diehards. In an arena setting it just wouldn't go over, and not just for the mac but for ANY band. Besides, I WANT to hear Rhiannon, Second Hand News, Stand Back etc. along with the new songs.

On the other hand, even though "Peacekeeper" and "Say You will" did get a fairly sizeable amount of airplay, I think it would be nice to play it a little less safe with the choices of the new songs...Let's hear "Everybody Finds Out" and "Miranda"

I don't think anybody is saying NO HITS. The band can do hits but should include more songs from their deep catalog. Why do the same exact show every night for 2 years...first leg, second leg, third leg...
