Personally, I think that if Mike presents his case well enough (and he usually does, IMO), this will be *very* damaging to Bush and his re-election. Let's not forget that the majority of American's have no idea what goes on between Shrub and the Saudi's, so this could be an eye opening experience for many.

ITA AND I knoe MANY who just refuse to believe it. So, I doubt they will listen to MM, but once the talk shows get a hold of it, perhaps these disbelievers will get some information from what they consider to be a more credible source, etc.

I'm convinced that the whole controversy is intentional by Moore to drum up publicity, which means more people will be interested in seeing it, even people who wouldn't have gone to see it otherwise. That way, he'll present his case to them and change some minds about the Evil Empire we live under. And kudos to him for that.

Weinsteins, Disney Reach Deal on 'Fahrenheit 9/11'

1 hour, 29 minutes ago Add Movies - Reuters to My Yahoo!

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Miramax Films said on Wednesday it has reached a deal with Miramax's owners, the Walt Disney Co., allowing it to find a new distributor for director Michael Moore (news)'s controversial documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11," which Disney refused to distribute.

"We are very happy that Disney has agreed to sell 'Fahrenheit 911' to Bob and Harvey," Miramax spokesman Matthew Hiltzik said in a statement, referring to Miramax co-chiefs Harvey and Bob Weinstein.

Under the agreement, the Weinstein brothers would acquire the rights to the film that chronicles America's response to the Sept. 11 attacks and looks at links between the family of President Bush (news - web sites) and prominent Saudis, including the family of Osama bin Laden (news - web sites).

Hiltzik said the Weinsteins are providing a "term sheet" to Disney based on a similar deal for a previous, controversial Miramax film "Dogma," and that the brothers "look forward to promptly completing this transaction."

The Weinsteins would then be free to find a new distributor to release the documentary into theaters, possibly as soon as July.

Disney, Miramax's corporate parent, had previously refused to distribute the movie that Miramax had funded.

Disney's decision, which it said it had made as long as one year ago, spurred headlines last week when Moore, the filmmaker behind 2002's Oscar-winning "Bowling for Columbine," went public with it.

I understand Harvey is a liberal but he also knows this film is going to do good box office. As long as the thing gets out, I don't really care how it gets out. Good for Miramax for doing this and a big one finger salute to Disney.

Film maker Michael Moore revealed he smuggled camera crews into Iraq to film disillusioned U.S. soldiers for his documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11.

Moore was speaking in Cannes, France, where the film will premiere Monday, the BBC reported Saturday.

Moore said he sent the crews into Iraq after disillusioned soldiers wrote to him.

I was able to sneak three different freelance crews into Iraq, he said. The soldiers had expressed disillusionment that they had been lied to.

Wow.

From the imdb.com:

Moore Says His Camera Crews Were Embedded in Iraq

Michael Moore, who reportedly had been editing his Fahrenheit 9/11 film up to the last moment, claimed Sunday that he was able to get his crews embedded with American troops in Iraq "without them knowing that it was Michael Moore." Speaking at a news conference in Cannes on Sunday, Moore once again predicted that the film would bring down President George W. Bush -- if he is able to secure a distributor before the November election. He added, however, "People will see this film, by hook or by crook. I will get this out if it means breaking the law or committing an act of civil disobedience." He did not indicate what sort of act he was prepared to commit. Meanwhile, the New York Daily News reported Sunday that Republican officials plan to file a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission, charging that by backing Moore's film, Miramax co-chairmen Harvey Weinstein and Bob Weinstein had violated campaign-finance laws. The newspaper quoted an unnamed GOP source as saying, "This is a blatant political ad in the guise of a documentary."

Oy vey. This just gets better and better...and from Drudge of all places!!

http://www.drudgereport.com

"20 mins standing ovation for FAHRENHEIT 9-11, yelling, screaming, cheering... 'This is the longest stading ovation in the history of the festival! Unbelievable!' declared Cannes stalwart Thierry Fremaux. Moore, raising fist, unable to speak over crowd, vows to fight... Controversial scene in film shows wounded American GI in Iraq talking about how Democrats must win election... Movie shows video of U.S. soldiers laughing as they place hoods over Iraqi detainees, with one of them grabbing a prisoner's genitals through a blanket..."

Then one of my media lecturers showed an episode in a lecture and 2 years later was still talking about how good this guy was, and then the Columbine film and it just keeps spiralling. I usually hate it when the masses start liking something that I loved ages ago when it was unknown, but with this, I encourage it. As Moore himself has said, Democrats aren't the good guys, but when the situation becomes like it is today, it's basically a matter anyone but Bush. God I hope this has an influence.

Sorry, I just ranted. He's making the news here, which excites me because not too long ago people had no idea who he was (or they thought he was fictional Australian media presenter Mike Moore.).
Yeah, I've been a fan of his since Savage TV. Then he came out with The Awful Truth and bought a copy of Roger & Me, and the rest is history. I adore his work and really tells it like it is. The Awful Truth is on DVD (both seasons) now, too.
