Exclamation Mirror Mirror outtake

I just downloaded a Mirror Mirror outtake on Daniel's site and WOW, I really like this one! It's the first one on the list. Her voice sounds better than the original, I really like it. WHY wasn't this song on a solo album or even an FM album? I love this song!!

There are TONS of outtakes of this song, Christy. I must have at least ten different versions!

I heard that Stevie didn't think it fit the RAL album, so it was put as a b-side for Blue Denim (I think). I like the song itself and her vocals, but not the lyrics. They just ramble on and on about nothing in particular. And the news bulletin jingle at the start of the song cracks me up BIG time.

Yeah... Too bad it didn't find a home on the Enchanted boxed set. "Real Tears" too. I'll bet they were never even candidates for inclusion to begin with... Sigh.

Exclamation News bulletin!

LMAO!! I love that sound, it's so 80's!! 10 versions! Dang. I don't care for the third outtake much, #'s 1 and 2 are my faves, with #1 being ultimate fave.

Yeah, I can't figure out what the frick the song means, but whatever...don't know what 90% of her songs mean anyways. LOL

Some of the guitar parts in this are intense, and even the master has a great vocal. However, the lyrics are Stevie at her most head scratchingly obtuse and annoying. Not only is the classic "he said, she said" clunker here in force, but what did he and she say, at the crescendo of the song ? "You must know. No, not really." How enlightening ! Talk about an anti-climax. If I ignore the words, I enjoy this one a lot.

The outtakes I have are very similar to the B-side.
I think the lyrics make sense. I just wish they weren't so sparse.

I think of this song as one of her most "impressionistic" -- you know, a tone poem, stream-of-consciousness. Why does everything have to make sense? It's about a feeling, not an event.

The very point of the song for me, both lyrically and musically, is about people who can't or won't communicate and prefer to leave things unspoken. I really identify with this song, ESPECIALLY the "You must know / No, not really..." part. I've had that exact conversation several times in my life, with people who I thought knew me inside/out and had my best interests at heart. Boy was I wrong.

Also, this song did make the Enchanted set, in a way. There is a photo of Stevie in the studio recording the song - the lyrics are on the music stand. And the "Julia" lyrics are in there too... Of course, I would have rather had the song, especially since "Mirror, Mirror" was only released on cassingle. (Unless there's a European CD single somewhere I still haven't sniffed out...)

We interrupt your regularly scheduled enchantment to bring you the following breaking news....
Stevie Nicks thinks you walk a thin line. But then, no, not really.

I actually like the song quite a bit, and I was very disappointed it wasn't included on 'Enchanted.'
I only had three major complaints about the boxed-set: the omission of "Mirror Mirror" and "Real Tears," and the early fade-out on "One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star."

My favorite part of "Mirror Mirror"....

"Some of us, will... some of us, will never see the light... and some of us, will only say, 'well, I don't want to fight about it!'"
