Dave, I can agree with you on Running through the Garden, it's one of my favorite demos but I got bored with the final version rather quickly. But I think Smile at You came out great, not wow, just great.

It retains it's angry passion in the music and updated lyrics. It also has one of the most up-to-date sounds which very few other songs on the record have... (carne, is that grammatically correct??

)

and with Lindsey's vocals the song morphs into perfection...

RTTG is still my fav. Stevie song on Say You Will, I guess it's all about personal preference..

Yes, but I bet you're talking about the lyrics & maybe the melody, whereas I'm really talking about the track in toto. I think the approach taken by the band & the producers is mock-derivative & uninspiring. It sounds blandly mechanical in that late '80s way. In fact, it sounds like a tired Heart track -- something like "How Can I Refuse."

What I'm least happy with on that track is the echoey, phased ambience given to the recording of the vocals.

I have a theory that Lindsey, in many of these tracks on "Say You Will," deliberately exaggerated, through electronic means, Stevie's nasality.

I enjoy the whole thing. The way she sings it, the instrumental parts..everything.. I do agree it's kind of 80s ...but it's just in my opinion, one of stevie's better vocal performances in a long while...The music is fine, doesnt bother me, doesnt inspire me...I'm just really into the lyrics yes, and the way she sings them

HEY! That's one of my favorite Heart songs...BITE YOUR TONGUE!

Granted, it IS the only decent tune on Passion Works, though.

That's the thing I like the most on this track. I also like the choral like voice on Smile at you. I dislike the 80`s guitar on RTTG.

Actually, to me it sounds more '60's...

...although, it sounds almost identical to his guitar solo on "This Is The Time" from Out Of The Cradle. Another example of Lindsey recycling ideas, no matter whether they're appropos or not.

Hmm. That seems odd to me. Wonder why he'd want to include so many covers of the same group on a solo album? Yes, I love Lindsey's past covers, and I can see even doing one Stones cover and one Donovan cover or something to that effect - but anything more than one Stones cover on a solo album is a really bad idea, IMO. We wanna hear Lindsey, not Lindsey do the Stones. Frankly, that's just common sense. Unless LB is interested in doing some kind of tribute album!

I absolutely agree. The production ain't so hot, but her vocal is unbelievable! I heard the live performance of this from Columbus and I'm glad they dropped it, cuz it didn't do the recording justice.

Got to disagree here. Peacekeeper and esp. Say goodbye sounded a lot better before the Stevization of the songs. On the other hand SYHA sounds a lot better with her on backing vocals as I must admit. Glad she did not interfere on Red rover, Come and Murrow though.
