You win. That might be the best part of the movie

Because the movie was so cold and detached, it was more powerful than any other Holocaust film ever made. It was like a documentary. However, I think it would have been even more affecting if Spielberg had canned the maudlin music at certain points.

The scene with the child running away and looking for a palce to hide was another one that tore out my heart. I couldn't put myself through more than one viewing of that movie.

On another note, we should start a thread of movies that were meant to be tearjerkers but became laughable instead.

I can do a mean Otto Titsling.

My other faves from that movie are Oh Industry, I Think It's Going To Rain Today, and I've Got My Health. Great songs, man.

My Girl
Moulin Rouge

Errgg..I had another one in my head and lost it after reading a whole bunch of other movie titles...oh well

Also I tried to watch Requiem for a Dream but it depressed the hell outta me!!! I couldn'te believe how depressing the tone of that movie is...but everyone LOVES it!! I do admit that I didn't even finish it because I was already super depressed and I knew things were going to get no better....but anyway...it depressed me beyond belief but did not make me cry...

I might be the only person to have fallen asleep during Moulin Rouge. The ending was sad, yes.

Requiem For A Dream is just such a sad and depressing film but I really did like it.

Good thing you didn't finish it because the last twenty minutes were torturous. I swear, I needed Prozac and a valium when it was over. The final twenty minutes are so excruciating, depressing, and brutal that it's no wonder the film got an NC-17 upon submission to the MPAA. If anyone wants to see the definition of intense, see that flick.

And, to thsoe that saw it, don't you think Ellen Burstyn should have won the Oscar that year, and not La Smile? She was so amazing that I can't put it into words.

*SPOILERS*

Not only did my jaw drop at that part, but it dropped when I saw the size of the thing. That sucker was the economy size.

And when Burstyn was getting the shocks? The geysers just erupted from my eyes.

Well, I own the NC-17/Director's Cut version on DVD, and it's not *too* different than the R-rated version. Just a little bit more stuff involving Marion at the end when everything's going to hell. It's still incredibly intense, though.

Ellen definately should have won, if not only for her monologue about her getting older. That and the Electroshock Therapy. Sheebus.

But God, I love that movie. Love, love, love. The book's pretty good, too.
