Lightbulb Soul become a stranger

One of my favorite songs from RAL is "Some Become Strangers." But it occurred to me tonight while listening to the song that she never once sings the title, as far as I can tell. In each chorus, it sounds to me like she's singing "Soul become (a) stranger" instead.
Does anyone else hear this?
And then of course there's the one time during the tag where she clearly sings "Let your soul become a stranger."
I guess it's just another case of Stevie tailoring someone else's lyrics to her own tastes (a la "Seven Wonders"). Just interesting that this time, it's the actual title of the song... and even though she never sings it, it remained the title!

Yeah, I hear that too. Sometimes I think she's singing "don't become a stranger". Who knows.

this is one of my favorite tunes sung by Stevie, I was very disappointed when I realised that it was written by someone else. But I've heard/read that Stevie sings another writers lyrics "when the lyric says the same thing her lyrics would have said anyway, saving her the trouble"

And I think Stevie does weave her lyrical magic with the multi-layering of singing and lyrics done by her and the girls mainly towards the end of the song. This technique is very common now with the Beyonce/Britney crowd but it was much rarer back in the day...
