Hi,

I was wondering how was Stevie on the Timespace tour? Did she move a lot? Was she enegetic? Did she really put on a good performance? How was her clothing?

I just want more info. about this tour.

Worst solo Stevie Nicks tour of all time (although one or two others give it a good run for its money). The band was trashy in a sort of Gazzara's-on-the-Strip way -- a bunch of power pop & pseudo-metal clods, including leftovers from Heart & Venice, mixed with heavy saxophone & synthesizers. Stevie was already at a disadvantage with this insensitive band of clods in the decibel department, but add to that the fact that her voice was terrible: flat, toneless, unresonant, frequently off-key. She looked like a campy female impersonator doing Mae West, or a gun moll in a gay production of "Guys & Dolls." As was typical of Stevie at the time (& still), she barely moved. (Playing with the ribbons on your mic stand does not constitute "moving" in the world of rock & roll, despite the opinions of some fans.)

The stage was a whore's idea of the grand ballroom at Versailles. The entire effect was garish & sleazoid, like the really bad parts of Tarantino movies.

The only good things about the tour were that 1) it was kind of interesting to see the Stevie Nicks organization mount a major tour before the corresponding album was released, & 2) they played "If Anyone Falls."

Note: All the shows were bad, but the Irvine Meadows show was less bad than the others. If you can track down a tape of that, do so. Also, the circulating pro-shot video known as Concord is actually Mountain View/Shoreline Amphitheatre.

You don't think Stevie moves at all now? At least the show I went to (Atlanta) on this tour, she was very energetic and spinned and twirled and danced all night. Given the fact that she is not 25 anymore, that is all I can ask for.

But even on the dance video, she was soooooo energetic if you ask me and was constantly dancing for some songs.

Besdies that, I am glad she is not falling off of stages anymore. That red rocks video is painful for me to watch compared to the dance (which I love, even though she doesn't move around like a maniac).

(We need to get folks in the habit of posting these Stevie-only threads on the Stevie Forum.)

The 'Mirror' and 'Timespace' tours definitely saw some very listless performances from Stevie, but I guess it's a miracle at all that she even performed, given how profoundly the Klonopin addiction was affecting her.

The radio shows from both are probably the vocal highlights of those particular tours, though they certainly don't match previous tours or subsequent tours.

As for Stevie's limited movements then and now, for me the difference is that she seems to focus her energies more on sounding good these days, than she used to.
In the late '80s and very early '90s, she didn't move much, but she didn't really put much "oomph" into the bulk of her vocal performances either.
In regards to current shows, she may not be moving as much as she did up to the 'Rock A Little' tour, but she's giving stellar vocal performances, in my opinion.

And I have to wonder how difficult it is to dance and sing, with a hole in your sinuses.
If you can't breathe properly, I can't imagine you being able to do both things well. So it's gotta be one or the other I'd guess, and I'd rather have great vocal performances (ie: on-key, full-voiced and strong).

Of course, I know others will argue my opinion that she's giving great vocal performances, as it's all a matter of opinion.

Plus she has Asthma (sp?) Depending on how severe, that could really limit you.

I do agree that she was not a maniac on stage, but the show I saw in Denver was not bad either. And (like everything related to her and her career) it's all a big fat matter of opinion. Personally, I LOVE HER CLOTHES AND STYLE IN THE LATE 80'S/EARLY 90'S! She was far more gutsy (and busty) and creative and colorful with her clothes than she is now. It was kind of trashy, b ut in a really cool Stevie way. An personally I would rather see StevieTrash than StevieSchoolMarm, with the sweater thing buttoned all the way up! I always thought that look was kind of a Fredericks of Hollywood meets Pirates of Penzance. Annnddddd.....I know we all know the Klonopin horror stories but I still don't think she was devoid of all creativity: obviously the clothes showed some pizzazz, and I've heard versions of Rhiannon and Edge of 17 that really rocked, and I'm really kind of fond of the slightly different take she gave to Landslide that I downloaded today from http://www.arizonalily.org/lilyrhiannon.

About Stevie not moving as much any more...

I agree that she does concentrate more on her vocals now, than in the early 90's. But, she does cut loose, vocally, and physically during Stand Back nowadays, much more so than before.

And on a similar note, I recieved the Rec Rocks DVD today, and she was quite energetic back then! I'm not sure if she was pumped, or if it was the coke, but she seemed off the wall at some points, dancing and spazzing out at weird moments...

( I finally made it to addicted ledgie!!! YAY!)

I had a great time at the Philly show - the Spectrum was a good venue back then - but now when I hear bootlegs from trhat tour I think they sound pretty flat. I remember being thrilled she played If Anyone Falls & thinking she did a good job on the vocals of Whole Lotta Trouble. She looked happy even if she did stand still. And at least the tour book talked about the songs.

I came down for the Irvine Meadows show, and it was pretty good. Not great, but she moved some and sounded all right.
The costumes were out of control. That is what I remember the most about the show. Didn't see any other dates, but I have to admit I enjoyed myself.

Even though Stevie sounded flat on several songs on this tour, I still think it's one of the best tours as far as her band is concerned. Musical director was Peter Michael (Escovedo), Sheila E's brother and the band consisted of members of the Sheila E band, Heart and Venice.

The band had a heavier, rockier sound than on any of her other tours and especially Stand Back, Talk To Me and Edge Of Seventeen sounded fierce! (I love the house-type piano chords during "and the sky never expects it when it rains...")

As far as Stevie not moving much, I guess we have gotten used to that by now. Her wild days seem to be over. I always find it very amusing that everyone seems to know exactly when she DOES move on stage: the number of twirls is immediately posted on the net right after a show as well as whether she did or did not do the Stand Back kick!

Still, I think it'a testament to Stevie as an entertainer that she can captivate an audience just with her voice and her presence and that she doesn't need to rely on visual effects for that.

I'm really kind of fond of the slightly different take she gave to Landslide that I downloaded today from http://www.arizonalily.org/lilyrhiannon.

Ugh... I just listened to this, and it reminded me of how difficult it was to be a Stevie fan back then. Her vocal is heart-felt, but she hits barely any of the notes _ not even the lower ones!
It was such a relief when she got her voice back for the Street Angel tour in '94.

By the way, some have mentioned great "Rhiannon" vocals on this tour. Any examples available for download anywhere?

I do have abootleg of a show in Philly. The songs that I liked the most were I NEED T KNOW (that rocked and every1 who has a boot of the show knows it) IF ANYONE FALLS (highlight of the tour) STAND BACK (HIGH KICK PREMIERE) RHIANNON (did it like the old days.

I am currently trading for a video of the tour from Concord, CA. It was pro. shot so hopefully it will be good.
