Getting mac-album-stories

Well, Talking about the reissues I felt the need to tell a personal story about I got my Tusk album back in '79. But that story was a bit off topic in that thread, so I deleted my post there and start a new one with it here. ( thanks for your reaction Christy!)

Do you like to share special moments about getting a Mac-release?

Well, this is mine.

Now, I think this is the moment to tell about how I got The Album back in '79...

I was almost 14 years old and in love with the Mac for two years at the moment Tusk came out. I was torturing the recordstore-guys for months and months asking about release-dates and it felt like ages until the day came that IT was there. I called all 4 recordstores of my hometown to ask if The Album came out that morning and only one said: wait a minute, I'm just opening the packages.... I waited for a minute....felt like half an hour...and he said, Yes! 29,95! ( dutch guilders ). I was a bit shocked at the price, but I had gathered money for months so I grabbed 30 piek and jumped on my bike with my heart pumping in overdrive. I was downtown in about 15 minutes and could not wait to go back home. I put down the money and he said... don't you wanna hear it? You asked me about this damn record a thousand times and you don't want to listen? So he unpacked the whole thing, while he was complaining about all the covers and that there was more paper than vinyl in there. I listened to over and over, which I loved immediately because of the warm sound and then The Ledge started and I did not know if I had to cry of disappointment or happiness because I felt both at the same time. This was so weird and different, but it was so great to hear that fantastic voice coming from everywhere I got a thick throat and I began to sweat. I said to the man, in a vibrating voice: this is so amazing, I have to listen to this at home. "Is it good?" he asked while putting The Album in it's perfect fitting plastic bag.
"don't know yet. Maybe IT's trash, maybe IT's brilliant. But I don't think IT is like Rumours."

I hung the bag on the the right side of my steer and rode home as fast as I could. At 75 % of my ride home, it happened. My right knee catched the bottom of the plastic bag and the above side of The Record hit my steer. I was riding the bike so hard that all those covers and Two Thick Vinyl Plates cracked. An angle of 90 degrees was hanging on my steer when Fell on the side walk of the street and scratched my elbow. It was bleeding but I did not see that until much later, my trousers were torn a little bit, too, but my eyes went blurry looking at that Perfect Hook in Plastic hanging on the steer.

I walked back to the record store crying. With no money left I put The Thing on the counter. The man looked at me: " did you have an accident? Are you alright?" I said with a thin voice: " yes, But Tusk is not...."

He looked at IT, packed a new one, gave it to me and said: "Let This Thing be brilliant damn it! Go home, boy, but don't rush!"

In the months afterwards, That Album unleashed IT's beauty to me. But until today, I'm regretting that I left the store without my broken album. Would have been a beautiful token of the turning point in my music- taste. Yes, the best selling band in the world got me interested in alternative-even underground- music, through Tusk. The best Album ever recorded by anyone.

I don't have a great story about getting Mac albums, as most were bought either online or at Best Buy. LOL

There was this guy at Best Buy who saw me thumbing through the Mac albums and he goes "You like the Mac? You are too young!" I go "I'm 27, and yes, I like the Mac, they are my favorite group." He then went on to say he listened to the Mac while in the Army back when they were a blues band. He was really shocked that I was into them.

While buying records at Half Price Books a year or so ago, the young lady waiting on me went "That's a great album. It's such a girly album." This was in reference to Belladonna.

Behind The Mask's release caught me in Budapest, Hungary of all places, where at that time, international releases were out very late. i was almost 2 weeks from returning home and a decent record store.
but when it comes to FM i can become (highly uncharacteristicly) very resourceful, and managed to come up with a brilliant solution; a friend of mine from england was supposed to be in Warsaw a few days later, same time as me!, so i called and asked her to bring me a copy there.
i remember my 17 year old self, alone in a taxi in an unbelievably freezing north european night, in what seemed like an absolutly dead city, reaching her hotel and getting what was probably the only copy of BTM in poland at that time.
i don't remember whether it was me who was dumb enough not to ask her to make me a taped copy, or was it her who forgot to do it, but the result was that i had only the LP, a walkman, and obviously no record player
i had about a week to stare at the sleeve, analyze the lyrics, imagine what it must sound like, and waiting desperately to be back home.

only thing that got mixed up i remember was the following
i had ordered the white album and when i got a call 3 weeks later it finaly had come in i went overexited to the shop
to find out he had ordered the album refered to comonly as the dog and dustbin album
who i bnever new such disapointment hehe
that is what you get when you have 2 albums both called fleetwood mac

and about a year ago when i had collected all the regulair fm albums i was looking to expand on my fm solo work and as i already bought all the christine, lindsey and stevie album i was looking at peter green this time
there were 2 cd's of the splinter group but even though i was tempted i thought i would only choose on at the time wich was
peter green splinter group time traders. I bought it put it in my discman , walked out of the store and when i got to the second track i loved it so much i rushed back to the store to get the other one aswell
and even the best of peter green splinter group later that day in another store.

Gerald, the funny thing when I read your original post was that I too had a bicycle-Tusk thing going on! Except nothing happens in my story.

It was about a year ago. I had just found this great old second hand LP store. It is massive, but all dark and peculair. Anyway sure enough they had every FM LP known to man. I have Tusk on CD but especially wanted the artwork I'd heard so much about. I really wanted to get both Tusk and the Live LP, but the fact that I'm a poor student coupled with the fact that I don't even have a thing to play the LPs on , I just got Tusk.

But I had ridden my bike in (I wasn't expecting to find this place and buy an LP!) and I didn't have a backpack. I asked the girl at the counter for a bag but as I say, the place is pretty dodge to say the least, so they didn't really have any. But she eventually found one. The LP barely fit. It was just your usual plastic shopping bag.

So then it was a matter of riding home on my bike with an LP in a plastic bag hanging off one of the handlebars! Cause it was blowing around everywhere, I had to stabilise it with one hand. I felt so crazy!!

...And then I get home and I can't even listen to it . But the artowrk sure was worth it. And the LP sounds pristine casue I played a bit of it t my folk's place on their machine.

How I Got TITN...

Several months after 9-11, I was bummed, on a serious writer and artist's block.
Then, I decided to go and find a few CDs I had been wanting to buy (including TITN). I went to two different malls, into Sam Goodys and FYEs.
When it was near the end of the day, I decided to give up. Before I did, I bopped into a Sam Goody.
I then asked the cashier if they had the CD and she went to find it.
When she gave it to me, she handed it to me, back facing to me. I thought, "Oh, no! It isn't it!"
I flipped it over, thinking about correcting the cashier, when I saw the beautiful cover. I said, "Thanks! This is it!"
From being handed it to paying for it, I thanked the cashier so much, I must've annoyed the hell out of her.
That day, I'll never forget it. It helped me cheer up.
And every time I listen to LL, the song always cheers me up when I'm down.

Finding Mirage: (sounds like Finding Nemo, )

When I was really young, I was searching through records, and was planning to look up Dan Fogelberg albums (they were my dad's ).
And I came across Rumours (I recall seeing it before), but then I came across this album with a "bizarre, dark" cover.
I decided to research the albums.
I later found out the one with the cover was Mirage.
Both of the FM albums are my mother's (but before, she told me they were my father's ).

A year after that, I wanted to hang up my LP copy of TITN, that I bought shortly before, and of course Mirage.
I then asked my mother if I could hang up Mirage.
She said, "Ask your father."
I did so. He said, "Ask your mother."
Before I could ask my mom, my mom then said, "You can have it!!"

And it happened again, when I wanted to add Rumours to my record collection.

As a sophomore I actually cut a college class to go buy the Greatest Hits cassestte when it came out. I listened to the new songs in my little Sentra as I hurried back for an International Relations class. The little fold-out photo got passed around the room a few times, as many guys wanted a few looks at Stevie in that kitten pose on the floor in the low-cut black dress.
I don't remember anything else from class that day, but don't tell my students. I like to tell them that studies are always the most important. File that under Lies Teachers Tell.

The only thing I can remember is when I got TVBOFM. My parents and I were at Sam's Club and I desperately wanted the new Sims expansion pack, but couldn't get it at the time. So, I looked around in the music section, hoping to find some of the CDs I was looking for. Well, TVBOFM was not one of them . But when I saw the cover I was like, "Hmm. I used to like them a few years ago... Maybe I still do." So, I picked it up. In the car, I was flipping through disc one, and I put ISA on. That was IT. I was blown away. I loved them all over again. But I then forgot about them for a few months untill I saw Little Lies on some promo thing on VH1 and loved it, which leads to...

My purchase of Tango in the Night!

I was off from school on my birthday, so my mom took me to borders so I could buy some CDs. I wanted Tango in the Night desperately, because I loved Little Lies so much after hearing it on VH1. So, I asked if they had it, but they didn't. So we went to Media Play, and THEY didn't have it. Finally, we stopped in Barnes and Noble, and there it was. I bought it, and played the hell out of LL, Big Love, Isn't it Midnight and Seven Wonders.

And here's a quasi-Tusk/MTM story...

I had my doubts about Tusk, and it was the last Rumours-era Mac album I purchased, same with MTM, because I was afraid to venture outside of the Rumours era. I was so stupid for being that close-minded. I bought Tusk and MTM on the same day, and loved both of them. Lindsey's songs on Tusk took a while to grow on me, but now they're among my favorites.

I just remember my parents buying me Greatest Hits when it came out because they knew how much I loved Fleetwood Mac. Not a really spectacular story but they surprised me with it and I sat on the floor all day long and kept playing it over and over again. I remember opening it up and looking at the picture and being very confused as to why there was no Lindsey....and why Stevie's boobs were hanging out of her dress
