Default Chanel, Chanel

Sararhiannon has this labeled as a demo from 1997. Does anyone have any info on this? Johnny Stew?

Thanks

Default Okay

I found the lyrics too. I'm going to post them here...with thanks of course to Sararhiannon.

Sararhiannon, can you maybe please post this song. This is completely new to me...

I know how
Hard it is to keep promises secret
Real secrets, the hardest of all
Well, I need to go but the
Free spirit has been sold
And now she's gone
As you leave the shore
Oh, remember there is always a chance
You may never return

Take your time, push down your wall
Well, I have run from places where I could not speak
And neither could I breathe,
Well I wake up in the middle of the night now
Well, I need to know... lady traveler
Leave the room the way it was
Well, the sentiment, well they can't stand up in the darkness
Ooh, Chanel, Chanel

She was herself
She was not his
She was not anything that she had loved
Because he would have lost if he had loved
Ending what he had grown, what he called mortal,
Such a beauty, whoa,
But your love would never be lost

Oh, he knew there was something there
Whoa, it was his hands, leaned against her side
Ooh, that feeling from the past
Well, that is something that she understands
Oh, lady traveler,
Leave the room the way it was
When they fall, and they can't stand up in the darkness
Oh, take your time
I remember a man when he said to me
He said, "What do you do?"
I sing...

Excuse me. I think I need to pick my jaw up from off the floor. Good lord.

I know!

Actually, I think those are pretty awful lyrics.

That's not why I had to pick my jaw up from off the floor.

When I first read the title I thought of the "Rachelle! Rachelle!" musical episode of Seinfeld. I couldn't imagine Stevie writing a song about that. But then again, I do love her Ballad of the Marble Rye.

I know it's not listed in the US Copyrights Office database.

Beyond that, I have no clue.

Well, I guess we're all screwed then. Because when Johnny Stew doesn't know? It's a safe bet probably no one else does either

Yeah, he's the resident expert. I think it's a safe bet this demo is not in circulation. I don't think these are transcribed lyrics, but rather ones Stevie wrote somewhere, in a journal perhaps, that got leaked.

It's a real song. It's from 1997 and apparently Sheryl Crow worked on it with Stevie for TISL. The version that's circulating is about three and a half minutes long. I'm trying to snag it, I'll let y'all know when I do.

I thank you for the compliments, ladies... but unfortunately I don't know everything regarding our favorite topic (sure wish I did though)!

I hope dissention is able to nab a copy of the track... I'd love to hear it.
It's always cool when something new leaks out just when you've started to think that everything that possibly could leak, had.

Amazing that this has been kept "hidden" for so long. Just makes you wonder what other "gems" are out there!
